Apologies if this has already been covered , Mods please delete if it has.

Last year I bought a used low mileage 1500 SLT Quad Cab 5.7 v8 Hemi truck with Uconnect 5. Everything was fine about it except for one thing and that was the the USB hub in the center console wouldn't recognize thumb drives.

I tried around eight or nine different make thumb drives all formatted properly and all 32GB as well as smaller sized drives, nothing would work. I took it along to our local dealer who reckoned the circuit board in the hub was faulty but because it was just out of warranty, they wanted several hundred bucks to try fixing it. I decided I would just have to live with it.

Thing was though the fact I couldn't use the USB to play music just kept niggling at me and so I went looking for an alternative to Uconnect radio. I came across several videos on Youtube explaining how to swap out radios for aftermarket jobs and I noticed during the swap that the circuit board in the console USB hub had to be swapped out with a iDatalink ACC-USB-RAM USB Port.

I went to their website http://maestro.idatalink.com/accessories/category/product_id/452 and had a look and saw the compatibilities. They claim that it will work with most after market radios and that got me thinking about if it would work with Uconnect so I ordered one from another site for the princely sum of $20 plus shipping.

It arrived in this mornings mail and I set to work swapping it out, very easy to do, took me about a half hour. I will say just take your time and be gentle with the small tabs to get at the circuit board. So hooked it up, crossed my fingers, legs and anything else that could be crossed and put in a thumb drive and damn me it worked. Just for the heck of it I even tried using a 500 GB thumb drive and it read it no problem so with this circuit board size doesn't matter ;-)

I checked all the settings on the Uconnect radio and the buttons on the steering wheel and everything worked as it should do. So there you have it folks, I hope this is of some help to those folks out there who have been tearing hair out trying to get their USB to work and play music.

Forgot to add that my truck year is a 2016 and this new circuit board works with 2013 - 2016 trucks. They may even have boards for older models, I just never checked out further than 2016

Congrats! My 2017 uses a 128GB stick just fine, but I bet the guys with older trucks will appreciate it .:)
