Anybody know of independent test results including Amsoil lubes? Amsoil is a blender, not an integrated OEM major oil company. Users have reported good results, I don't understand why Amsoil resorts to such huckster marketing.

will go to the dealership and get rear additive and transfer case BW 44-44 68089195AA tomorrow.

you likely wont need the lsd additive, and you only put it in if you get shudder. And no real reason to buy it if you have local parts stores, you can easily get it there is needed.

opportunity lost for their competitors. I have seen a lot of paper on the edu system, but very little brand specific stuff. They are true to results where brand means nothing, so they go out of their way to not use shelf brands. I'm not sure there is much interest out in the world because there doesnt seam to be massive rear end failures, so it at least appears like the gl-5 spec and before specs have served us well.

They do set their values to make them win, randomly give price the same value as pin and vee block, which is the test on pressure and saving the metal under load. Shouldn't that get a 5 share or a ten share in importance compared to other random values? It certainly is fair what they did, and I do believe and trust the results, but unless the buyer can see those grey lines they just not bewaring in the buyer beware scenario. That plus I doubt one could find a diner gear lube then amsoil anyhow. They sure do a good job in transmission and diffs with the uoa's I have seen. Not many but some.

I read this thread and a million like it over the last few days or so. My head was spinning.

Anyway, I just did all the fluids today except the coolant.

I went with Mopar oils for the front diff and transfer case. Valvoline synthetic for the rear. Pennzoil for the Hemi. Spoke to a few parts guys at the Dodge dealers I deal with as well as a mechanic at a local Jeep specialist. They all said I should pony up for the front diff and Transfer case fluids and use Mopar products. I have the B44-44. The rear diff should be good with a decent full synthetic.

Still pretty expensive.

Just curious, did they say why?

Also did you use the 75w-85 in the front diff? If so what was the part #


Also I did a coolant flush several times with distilled water. The O ring on the petcock valve went bad and caused a leak
I replaced the valve w Dorman 61134 that orileys had fit perfect and no leaks. It looks different from ram but same as my chrysler 300.

Also before you start do yourself a favor and mark w a silver sharpie the start location on the petcock so you know where zero is.

Among the several problems I have with this document, the first one is that the listed Mopar 75W-90 gear lubricant with Mopar Friction Modifier has not been offered since 2005. This document bears a verification date of 2007. [edited]

which coolant thread

if you are still on oem fill, just get mopar 10 year coolant it is oat, when cold purple, when warm pink or orange. Once the chain is broken as in different fluid was used or damage to cooling system happened, good reason to move to a non dex universal, peak global life. The downside is color, there is a benefit to stay with oem as long as the color is still fresh looking. go universal the color is not as good as oem, which is a gauge how good the coolant is.

Giving up and asking for some advise from anyone on here who may know about fluids.

2013 Ram 1500 4x4 65,000 miles
Canadian truck built in Michigan recently imported to US

I want to change fluids

Front differential
Rear differential
Transfer case ** Not sure if i have BW44-44


Problem i am having is finding a lot of different information on the fluids the truck needs.

I called the dealership and he recommended 75-90 non GL5 for the front and rear and didn't sound confident and he looked it up using my vin.
Called another dealership and he recommended something totally different and they weren't alias part #'s


i have only had the truck about a month.

Just wondering if anyone knows the best fluids for this truck.
Any help is very much appreciated.


Have looked up Valvoline, royal purple, AMS oil but they don't really specify GL5 rating.

Does anyone know the socket size of rear pinion Nut that gets you to the rear seal?

i haven't got to it yet due to the 4 flange bolts connecting the drive line are very rusted and penetrant isn't working, don't want to use flame because the gas tank is right there.


I know i don't have a socket this size and just want to order one if anyone knew the size.

Are you trying to pull the pinion to change fluid? Or actually changing the seal? You definitely don't need to pull to do fluid. There are a million different fluid opinions on the site so I won't add another.

There is a special socket for pinion nuts on most Mopars, but if its a DS (4th gen) with the AAM differential I think you'll find it 32mm, deep.

Thanks I ordered a 32mm 12 point.

Yea I have a small leak on the seal that I found while doing the fluid change.

This forum is a great source of information. Some of the best advice I have read has been on fluids. When others have posted results of independent testing, OEM products of most manufacturers perform at the bottom. These products are branded OEM but made by major manufacturers. Sifting trough these product tests can put you into a product that is usually better and cheaper. That is a win-win for you and your truck. An example of these tests has led me to Amsoil, RedLine and the Mobil Delvac 1 for great gear oil choices. The same can be found for the transfer case oil and transmission fluid.
