After replacing my bearings I learned that that CV is not as easy as it looks to come off. there is a retainer in the middle of the splines there that is supposed to keep it firmly seated way down the splines. To get it fully off on my 09, the Chilton book had me seperate the top ball joint and pull the control arm out at the top. this gave me the slack to remove it. WHAT A PITA. There is a large spring system inside the coupler that pushes towards the ball joint to keep the axel pushed up onto the differential. you have to compress it to remove. I would bet that has lost some of its strenght.

You are going to need to replace the c-clip which seats into a groove on the stub shaft (the thing your CV came off) when you put pressure onto the CV. I managed to push my CV inwards after turning my wheel to straighten the CV's axle shaft. I heard an audible snap as the c-clip was re-seated into the groove on the stub shaft.

If yours came off chance is the c-clip isn't holding anymore and it needs to be fixed. It seems that with my 2/4 drop spindles and other small alignment issues from hitting a pot hole that my left side is off enough to put enough extra stress on the CV assembly to pull it off the c-clip over time as the c-clip looses tension. So now I am going in to have the front end assessed and to get anything else that's slightly off either adjusted or replaced out of my pocket instead of dealing with a dealer who will most likely not replace it if it can be adjusted back within spec and is not considered detrimental to the health of anything else. I want it done right the first time not half assed like many things that are done when I get it through warranty.

You tell me how a dealer can replace my entire CV, rotate and align my tires for a cost not even for free, and then give it back to me and say hey we couldn't get the one side perfectly into spec sorry. Now it's my turn to try and make sure I don't experience this problem again.

That's a new axle I put on there about 6 months ago. If I can get away with simply replacing the c clip for now I think I'll just do that
