Fuel mileage calculator reads pretty high.

Just filling up my truck after a road trip on secondary highways. Fuel mileage read outs read 20.7 mpg but hard calculation at the pump was 19.3, a 1.4 mpg difference. I only have about 3500 miles on the truck but each fill up gives the same result within a tenth or so.

Do you suppose RAM marketing people are just hoping no one will actually take the time to calculate the real mileage?

Considering the fuel economy is an estimated calculation based on engine load, that's not bad.

As for the trucks fuel economy being high, your actually a good 7-9 mpgs low(hehehehe).

That does not concern me as much as the Low Fuel sign showing up in my dash and a fuel pump emblem coming on at a 1/4 take left?!! And it took 20 some odd gallons to fill up. Lots and lots of nannys on this truck!!!! some are useful some are not. It’s like putting a sign on a toy “choking hazard” in the 50s and 60s I just don’t remember any of the neighbor kids choking to death from trying to eat things and in the 60s and 70s when the fuel tank was low we knew to go get gas miraculously all on our own!!!:)

The truck's fuel calculator will never be as accurate as doing it by hand. But even for that to be accurate, you need to fill it exactly the same each time - like when it clicks off don't top off. Other than topping off being a bad habit, sometimes by doing it you can squeeze another gallon in there which throws off your calculations.

I’ve calculated the actual mileage on every fill up since I bought the truck. I run the pump on high until it clicks off, wait about 15 seconds and run it again until it clicks off and done. It’s run 1.2 to 1.4 mpg below the trip computer every time. I believe that’s pretty consistent. It’s off far more than any other vehicle I’ve owned.

my '14 outdoorsman 5.7 is between 9-11% optimistic on the dash as well. I've hand calculated every fill up( I feel I start seeing big deviations or gradual dropping) I might have a heads up on the tune and related parts.

This will blow your mind then.On the 1320 Challengers if the low fuel light comes on,not only can you not access the line lock or transmission brake, but the car also cuts power big time, lol
Supposedly it's to save the car,but it's a real bi-tch,when the light comes on at about the 330 ft mark, and the car falls on it's face, and runs a good 3+ tenths off it's dial-in

I don't even know if my low fuel light even works or not. I always refill mine when I get around a 1/4 tank. One of those rare hour long traffic jams (accident) when your low fuel light is on will break you from that. I've had a few cars in my life that the fuel gauge didn't even work and I could keep from running out of fuel by going by how many miles I put on it since the last fill up. I know how to check my fluid levels and tire pressure, don't need any nanny doing it for me even though I have to pay for them in the price of the vehicle. I don't have a problem with anyone that likes them I just hate paying for things I don't want or need.
