Guys,

For a week or so my truck has been acting weird. I have to open the door, turn the key to on, and continue turning it off and on until I hear the pump for a couple of seconds straight (letting me know I have fuel and it will now start). Otherwise it won't start if I don't hear the pump. I am wondering if I could replace a sending unit or if I need to replace the pump and housing? Sometimes it will only pump for a split second, it won't start like that, but once it runs for the full amount of time (maybe a second or two), it will start. Sometimes it will stutter, but it will start at that point. Anything else to try before swapping them? It isn't progressively getting worse, it's been the same for a week or so now. Any recommendations on brand or models? Do I simply drop the tank and swap it, or are there other steps to take? Thanks!!

Yes is the answer to all of your questions.

You can just replace the fuel pump if they are available. The dealership will only sell the entire unit. If you do the install yourself be careful not to break the plastic housing.

If you have to go through all the trouble just to get the truck started replace it asap.

Thank you. So that would be the "fuel sending unit" on rock auto, if I just replace the pump?

First step is drive it till it's almost out of fuel, makes dropping and re-installing the tank a lot easier, lol. Some guys will tell you to unbolt and lift the box out of the way,but to do that, you'll need to line up at least 3 or 4 big guys to help lift the box up and slide it back, but it does make getting at the top of the tank easier,if you're doing it by youself a floorjack with some 2X4's on it,is probably your best option for dropping the tank
