Fuel tank switch

I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Crew Cab and want to switch my standard fuel tank to a 32 gallon Mopar tank. Has anyone done this switch? Any problems or concerns to worry about? Mopar parts says that it should be a plug and play.

Haven't done it, but the only difference should be the size of the tank.
The pump should be the same.

I looked into this for the 2012 and the price of the tank was crazy. To me it's not worth the upgrade

I think Smiley3303, one of the mods on this site did that with a salvage yard 32 gal tank on his 2009.

I'm sure he'll be along shortly to confirm or call me an idiot.

32 gallon is $670, Not worth it IMO..

Price I got was $970. For $670 is still steep though.

List price is $970. Through Mopar Parts Online the cost is $670 and through a salvage yard the price is around $300-350. I think that maybe less than a tuner and some of the CAI systems some people buy. To each their own-what maybe important to me may not be as important to you----

I would def do it if I could find one for 350-400. I would like to be able to go all week to work without having to get gas lol. I was in no way trying to minimize your ideas and or goals with the truck.

I figured any way I could pay more at the gas station would be a plus---like I don't give them enough money already. I just wish they could say Thank You in a language I could understand!!!!

Completed the switch to a 32 gallon tank. The 32 gallon tanks from 09 through 13 are the same although the part number changed in 13. The Module Fuel Pump is the same for the 26 gallon and the 32 gallon and all the straps etc are the same--basically plug and play. The gauge seems to be accurate so far. The DTE seems to be a little off right after you fill the tank but it becomes more accurate after you drive about 50 miles??????I don't know why. The dealer does not have access to any computer software to change the computer from a 26 gallon tank to a 32 gallon tank.
Cost--If you buy a new 32 gallon tank they sell for about $690(list price is over $900). If you buy one from a wrecking yard they cost about $300-$350. Dealer install is around $100 bucks or you can do it yourself. If you change it yourself, the least amount of gas in the tank the better. Takes about 2 hours to change it out.

The dealer should flash the BCM and remove sales code 'NFW' and add sales code 'NFX'.

I believe I remember reading from another forum a guy did a fuel tank swap on his 03 and only thing he had to do was get bigger straps for the tank.

Also mentioned that the overhead console will not be accurate for a bit as it is reading a 26 gal tank and not a 35 gal tank that he had installed. The fuel gauge is accurate just not overhead until you use up the extra fuel.

No way to tell the computer that without pretty much putting in a new system for the tank size.

Again this was all for a 03-08 tank swap but congrats on your tank swap, would love to do this to my truck as well. Gets boring saying put in $100 every time. LOL

I think the gauge works pretty good and the DTE gets more accurate the more miles you put on a tank of gas. Other than that the switch was plug and play--as I was told by some forum members.

I do not have the access, but it's as simple as going having the dealer go online and adding the option code for the larger tank and deleting the option code for the smaller tank. Then have them re-flash the BCM.

I've added several options to my truck. Whoever told you they can't do that is wrong.

I looked into it real hard, and Smiley told me the pump fits, and even the old straps fit (the 32 is just longer but same diameter) until I got my build sheet saying i have an extra 4.5 Gallons of capacity.
