Does everybody have a gas filler door without a cap retainer on it?

On my other car we can rest the gas cap on a retainer so it isn't hanging down by the body work.

See that little hook? Hang the plastic lead on it. That is the cap holder.

Thanks I will do that from now on.
Honestly I thought there might be some plastic piece that snapped into the hook and the cutouts on the door to hold the cap.

that little hook lip sticking up at the top is where you hang the plastic cord over it, not all fill doors have the larger hook to hold the cap itself.

They had to replace my gas cap due to a Evap leak I kept getting a code for. So the new caps cord doesn't reach the hook so I just hook the edge of the cap
On the hook works for me

Ya it's a pretty terrible design.

Only semi-related, but has anyone noticed the irritatingly steep angle of the filler neck that makes it a pain to get a key in there if you have a locking cap?

I had the black Bully locking door on my 13 and that angle was a paint trying to get the pump in without scratching it.

it's a pain just putting gas in and really hard if you happen to get a nozzle with a hook on the back

I don't have a locking cap for my truck. Haven't had one on any vehicle except my two 1966 Chevy C10s and they were put on by the previous owner.
I don't believe I've ever had a conversation with anyone who had some gas siphoned...

With the modern vehicles, it not so much the siphoning (I know on my Charger, there is a check valve that prevents it, not sure about the Ram), but to prevent sickos from putting stuff into the tank - crazy ex, that coworker you pissed off because you took the last cream cheese bagel, the Prius driver that you passed because they were going 30 in a 70... One of the local mechanics I know talks about dead cars because of stuff put into the tank that doesn't belong in it. The most memorable one he's talked about was someone who had a full tank of water in their new Tundra because the neighbor kid wanted to wash the truck.... New tank, new fuel pump and a rebuild on the engine after that...

live near a poor city with a vehicle parked near/on the road it will happen. It did for me 3 yrs ago when gas was close to $5 a gallon here. A 26 gallon tank full of gas is liquid gold.

Ive seen ppl siphon gas before. Esp when they see a high performance car that looks like it runs on higher test gas esp when gas prices were ridiculous. I have a locking gas cap on my 87 firebird for that reason, plus I have too much money in that car for someone to put sugar or something in the gas. People are crazy, stupid and irrational. Honestly looking at getting one for my ram.
