Gas Mileage w/ Lift

So im gonna buy a new ram 1500 and want a lift right out
of the dealership. This truck isnt going to see much 4x4 its
more less going to be for looks so I dont want to have the
worst gas mileage. So im just wondering what sized lifts you
guys have on your rams and what the gas mileage is and
what kinda mods you got. Any input is very helpful.

Well you'll need bigger tires with a good lift so thats where the Gas Mileage gets affected IMO. I get a wopping 15.6 US cruising on the HWY and I'm happy. My LX Hemi is for the awesome gas mileage. As for Lift Kit there are some lifted fourth Gens in here that will surely Chime in. have you thought about a Hemi Power Wagon which has all the cool stuff already.

If youre gonna lift it, make sure you spring the extra cash for the 4.56 gears, that will help get back some of the mileage lost with the larger tires...

My answer was an intelligent one FYI. Trucks are not ment for gas mileage. But I'll leave you alone so you don't get more snappy with me.

I've got 33.5 nitto trail grapplers on my 06 RAM right now, and get 17mpg.
So if I were to get a 3 inch lift with those same tires would it be the same?

No .. the higher you go the less you will get .. wind resistance comes in to play .

33" tires are dam near stock

I've got a 6" lift w/ 35.5 Nitto Trail Grapplers. I average between 12-12.5 city that's with tuner, K&N, and exhaust. Most all my driving is a lot of stop and go in the city and I have a heavy foot so mine pretty much stays in that range.

But as was mentioned above, if you want to lift it forget about keeping high mpg. It's the tires that really kill the mileage, so stay on the smaller side and keep all terrains if you are really concerned. The tougher the tread on the tires you buy the worse your mileage will be; the higher you go the worse it will be.

They don't make a 3" lift on the 4th gens unless you only do a BL which is not the way to lift a truck IMO.

33" tires are no more than a 285 tire....when you increase the rolling resitance of the truck with larger tires, the engine will use more power to move. The best mod you can do if you want to go with larger tires, especially over 35" is regear it...then I would get a tuner and tune it properly.

As was mentioned, plan on investing in 4.56s gears. That will really help your mileage out a lot with bigger tires and give you more power too.

Yes I did, but I can always take the tuner out of my old one and put it in my new one.

Good MPG what's that? lol Yeah you will loose alot of MPG with a lift. I run about 17 on the hwy and 12 in town with my 2011 6" lift with 35x12.5 tires.
