I have started looking into gears for my 2012 CC 4x4. It has 3.55s stock, wanting to go with 3.92s or 4.10s. I called the dealer to get a price, since I could not find gears anywhere else, and found out some interesting information and I wanted to verify that it was correct.

The parts guy told me that in order to get 3.92s or 4.10s I would need a limited slip differential. From my VIN he said that my truck did not come with a limited slip. Is this true?

Secondly, when I asked him about gears for the front, because for 4x4 you would need to replace both unless I did not want to use my 4x4 correct? The Parts guy told me that he couldn't find anything for those gears, and that if I wanted to replace the front with 3.92s I would have to replace the whole differential. Is this true? Do they not have gears to just swap out for the front and rears?

I'm still finding it hard to believe that a a 2012 CC Hemi 4x4 Lonestar doesn't come with a limited slip differential. I wanted to ask him about 3.55s and see if he said the same thing about the limited slip, but I got sidetracked about something else he said.

Id request a build sheet from them to confirm you dont have a lsd.

correct about replacing both unless you dont want to use 4x4.

ill let a 4th gen chime in about the gears..I know that certain things arent out yet for them without modification, but the 3.92s come with the lsd package, so I would think you could at least get those.

ill post the link to request your build sheet in a edit.

here ya go

Before you spend a fortune and drive youself nuts, may I ask why you need to change the gears? Are you going to race?

I believe you can only go as high as 3.92 in a 4x4 considering the RT is not 4x4 and that's what the 4.10s are made for, so they have no 4.10 front gears. But you should be able to change out both front and back to 3.92 as a simple swap, and while putting an LSD in at the same time may be a good idea since its already open, it's not necessary. Honestly, I'd just wait until they come out with aftermarket options for these trucks, as 3.55 to 3.92 isn't goin to be worth the cost you pay for 4x4 gear change and dealer prices.

Thanks I filled out the form, so we shall see what happens.

Before you spend a fortune and drive youself nuts, may I ask why you need to change the gears? Are you going to race?

I plan on lifting the truck and putting bigger tires under it. I have seen, as the general consensus, that 3.55's will work, but tend to struggle with anything over 35's. If this is not true, then I'll just put the money towards other things and not deal with it.

I was thinking the same with with the simple swap, but was told other wise form the dealer. What's the advantages of putting in an LSD?

Do you ever slip a lot in the rain on turns or anything of the sort? All LSD does is give you better traction, instead of just locking up one wheel and spinning the other like stock normally does, the lad distributes power between the wheels until traction is gained.

I only have 34's. However, between the hard towing I do with my travel trailer in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the offroading I do there, I've never thought twice about the 3.55's. The engine/tranny combo on my Ram blows away the combo on my Chevy 2500HD with 4.10's. Honestly, I think you're just wasting money and giving yourself an ulcer for nothing. That said, you are the one who needs to be satisfied. You should do what you want.

Noted. Ill probably just not worry about it until the need arises.

Thanks everyone for the information!

Gear swap is the best upgrade I know of. Plain and simple night and day. I can peel out at any speed and have so much go now. It was worth every penny.

very true, but like blackedouthemi said, to got from 3.55 to 3.92 at dealer costs isn't really worth it. Now if aftermarket becomes available and the zf can get 4.56 gears that's a different story

Smiley, what RPM are you at when you're at 70-75 on the highway with your gears. I do a lot of highway driving and am really considering some 4.10s
