Looking to buy a 1500. Right now its between a 2wd crewcab with the 4.7 st model 49k miles for $19777. Or a v6 2wd crew cab with canopy st model with 47k for $17899. Im leaning torward the v8 but am unsure .any input would be greatly appreciated! And for the main reason I started this thread, I was wondering how hard the smart key is to install on a base level 1500 st, i did a search and couldnt find anything about it.

It's ok does seem a tad high but spring for for 4.7 the 3.7 is a dog and in a crew cab it'll be even worse. And the smart key wasn't a option untill 2013 I beleive (if your talking about the one that you just push a button on the door and push start) and if that is what your talking about its not possible with oem parts it would be a total custom job.

The smart key im talking about is similar to the mercedes key, basicaly a key fob. The ignitioN looks like it has a cut out for it. What do you think a fair price for the 4.7 would be?

You can get a brand new one for 25k and that's a Hemi

Go for Hemi all the way, the v6 is a great engine but the hemi is way more power and the gas mileage is nearly the same.

im pretty sure they all come with that key.. I looked at 10's when they were new and the had the mercedes style keys, and depending on your location I would be looking at about 17-17500 for the 4.7 with 50k and only being a st package. If your in Canada the price is probably fair maybe 18500-19000 I know they are higher just not sure on how much someone from Canada could give you a better anwser on that.

Edit: just to give you refrence in late 13 I looked at a 12 crew cab slt with center console sliding rear window hemi ect for $22000 and that was like mid 20k on the od.. I know it's a year later but prices are holding pretty steady.

Originally i was trying to stay under 15k but the 4.7 i drove was smooth and the wife really liked it aswell. Dont think I could squeeze another 5k in there though haha. And im from Oregon. Not quite canada.

Was 19777 on the window or there Internet price? I would say $17 range would be fair for today's world.

19777 was mark down window price from 23k. Which seams to be the typical price in this area. When I test drove the truck they must of just had the backup key then. Because the key I used was just a standard key.

If it was just a normal key from like a 06 or something then it won't have a smart key. Mine doesn't even have a slot for a stardered key. The 2010 I drove was a slt so that may be why it had the smart key. I just put in a Random zip for Oregon city Oregon and a 75 mile radius and not much came up the price seems to be soild for your location. Texas (truck capital) that's a tad high but you probably could work them down to 19 even.

I would look at a 09 slt hemi with 75k for about the same price you would be a lot happier I believe.

Find a way to stretch it, for 5g's you get a brand new truck with warranty over someone elses problem they trade in with around 50k miles.

But seriously good luck to you, there are less of you then trucks. Make the dealer come way off their price or walk away. There are thousands of 2011 Rams that seam to fall out of the sky like rain, compared to people who are willing to shell out near 20k for a used truck. You are the one in the strong position.

My dad's 11 st has only a standard key. He got a key fob that does locks and added remote start from the dealer but it's a separate aftermarket looking thing. My 12 st (although it has express package) has the key fob like the picture posted above with no standard key.

Price seems high to me too. And I am not far from Oregon. I just paid 20k for my 2010 quad cab 4x4 with a hemi. I personally would rather get something older with the larger v8 in the same price range. Go drive one with the 5.7 before you go and buy a 3.7 or 4.7. It is up to you but there is a big difference.

Thank 14 express ill have to look into your sugestion. Interior size is a big issue for me as I am 6'9" so if it is relatively close im size I will have to check it one out.

Burla. I am definately one to make an educated decision haha or else I would have drove off the lought that day haha.

Here could be something to think about. Stroll the local lots and pick out some options and troll auto trader fly in and buy one and drive it home. 2-300 for a plane ticket 1 night motel 70 and 150 fuel getting home so for $500 buck you could save 2-3000 by flying somewhere cheeper. Here is a lot nicer truck for a Lot less money and less miles AutoTrader.com Mobile:: Used 2013 RAM 1500 2WD Quad Cab SLT

You'll have to spend some time researching title checks dealership verification and spend some time on the phone with the dealer... Sometimes they will pay for your ticket to fly out there...
Or if you have family in another state check local for them and maybe hey can go drive it for you.

Well I aint arguing with no **** that is 6'9", so whatever you say:)

But two things to pay attention to, really test how the transmission is shifting at low speeds around town. A lot of people don't like these tranny's. Show up and start the truck and listen for any signs of ticking, in some cases it can be a real pain. In the cab look behind the 3rd brake light for leaks.

Do you know what axle gears you have? 3.92 are really desirable, 3.73 are decent, and I don't prefer anything lower.

Im not to sure what the rear gears are in it. I have the vin number so ill have to check in the morning and see. Flying to get the truck would be desirable to me, but my wife probably wouldnt go for that haha. She doesnt so much see the details of the truck like engine size amd such. She sees the price and if its local haha.

I hear you. I could of gotten a larmie for the same price as my express if I were to fly out and buy it... But you always run the risk of it being gone the dealer adding stuff to it and jacking up the price and stuck flying back home empty handed and still down $500. I would wait for a better deal to come along.
