Generally speaking, is now a good time to buy?

I can wait up to 6-7 months before I buy. I am set on a Ram. I'll wait for the best deal.

I know the 2016's will be hitting the lots at some point. Should I wait for this to come closer? Or buy now?

Thanks!

1) end of the month is the best time to get a deal. The closer to the end of the month, the better the deal. However, if a dealership has already reached their quota or sales goal a few days early, you arent getting a great deal if you walk in the last day or two of the month. I say you go in with about 5-7 days left in the month and try and see how the negotiations go.

2) The later you get into the year, usually the better the rebates, meaning the better the deals...... However, It all comes down to the economy, gas prices, how well or bad the quantity of vehicles the manufacturer is moving each month and other macro economic things. Last report i heard, was auto sales were a little soft last month as a whole. Gas prices have bottomed, but they are rising and spiked last week. I'm hoping that the dealership i am working with is going to be in a tough spot and really offer me a great deal on the truck i started shopping for two days ago..... i'm about 90% of the way towards the deal i want......and i got time......they dont, the month ends is 6 days

Later in the year will be better. The rebates get bigger at the end of the summer going into fall when the 16s start being anticipated.

^^^ also true, but inventory of 15's slowly begin to deminish. Colors, options and what not are things you may have to be flexible with. I for one am not at the moment. I know what i want and its out there ........at the moment.

If the o.p. is ordering, don't they stop taking orders soon or have they already? I made sure I ordered an hd 3500 before 2016 cause they might just be really fugly!

...and go to a large volume Ram dealer to find the best pricing, if you have one in your area.

I just debated trading on an ecodiesel. I asked my dealer what he'd sell me one for. He said he'd take 16K off MSRP. I decided not to buy an ED, but if I had I would have worked that 16 to 18 like I got on my truck.

Basically build your Ram on the site, add in freight, AC tax, all the options you selected. Do not add on the rebates it shows on the site. In my case the total MSRP was 70,000. I took 18 off that and had 52K. Which is what I would have paid before tax on an ED.

Also check out the vin numbers of the dealer inventory. Lower the number, the earlier it was manufactured and that means more time on the lot. Dealers don't like inventory around for 90 days and will offer lower price to move it.

I think October is when dealerships get there new model year inventory , I've always been told the last week of Sept . Is the best time to get a deal , but as stated above if you can find a this or last year's model that covers your needs they will be very flexible !
Don't forget about verifying easily overlooked things on your new truck from a dealers lot ie. Differential ratio , prewired system not installed and type of wheels ect ect , ask to see the build sheet , lots of times a truck has certin systems provisions already installed and it's nice to know when you purchase that you can add on features via plug and play at a later date. ..

I bought mine in March of 2013 and got 10k off before even starting to negotiate. It was "Truck Month" so I don't know if that had anything to do with it...

You make some really good points. In my experience, the best time of year to get the best deals is early in the new year. People are hurting from credit card debt, Christmas spending. Dealerships are dead and pleading for business.

My truck had been on the lot for 238 days. Only had 32 miles on it. Nothing wrong, maybe it was because it is the flame red. I would not have bought that color but since I got such a great deal I could care less about the color.

Wait until November and buy yourself a new 2015 that the dealer is dying to get off their lot.
