Help! Just had my 2020 Hemi Ram in for oil change and weird engine noise. I was told the noise was GMU Generator going bad It is under warranty but there are none in the country 2 month backlog. I’m driving to Florida in two weeks.
Anyone have any experience how long it might last when noise starts? Or where I might get a replacement

You list your truck as a 6.1, but that isn't an engine for Rams, did you replace your engine? The 6.1 engine was only in SRT cars and SUV. I am also unsure of what a GMU alternator is. You should be able to buy an aftermarket alternator to ensure you can travel. Also try Benny in our vendor section at All Mopar Parts

I believe what he is referring to is the MGU Alternator or the Motor-Generator Unit for the 5.7 HEMI E-Torque.

Ahhh .. thanks for that. Looks like it is available aftermarket and maybe even the original Mopar unit could be had. Benny would know. I think there is a way to get reimbursed if the part should be under warranty but has to be fixed outside of a dealer but not 100% sure, maybe someone else can chime in on that option.

Hello! If this is in-fact your MGU* (motor generator unit) going out and not your idler pulley, here is what I did. Call ram care and see if they can expedite your part. They were able to get me one in about 2 weeks. I also took apart the old MGU and discovered that the rear bearing was shot (causing all the ruckus). $42 bearing and didn’t even need the new part.

A part number or link to the bearing would help out alot of guys. Don't be scared to post a link to a part, the site gets credit for alot of the links posted on here.

The MGU doesn't have an idler pulley that I know of you have to pry on the unit to tighten the belt, I wouldn't drive it like that it may seize and cause more damage, if the belt comes off it can cause the main drive serpentine belt to come off.

68623194AB is the part number for the “engine generator kit” aka MGU (Motor Generator Unit) my specific bearing that went out was the rear (closest to driver). At 56k miles. The bearing I picked up at NAPA BRG 6003-2RSJ. Same bearing as what was used OEM.

No, the MGU does not have an idler pulley. I was meaning for the cause of the sound. Some people get the idler pulley bearings wearing and the MGU whining sounds mixed up. As they do sound similar.
