Just ordered a case of Redline 5w20 off Amazon with an RP filter since my truck is about 10k miles. Not sure if I should say thanks to Burla for helping to convince me to go Redline or not, considering the cost :roflsquared: I did used to run Redline in a car I had, so I know its good stuff and I'm excited to get back on it.

Also grabbed a Fumoto drain valve with accessories to add. Looks like a good addition.

IMO Redline and Motul are the best you can get, so many advantages. So if I have a vote, I say you thank me you ingrate. :flipthebird:

I have a question. I swapped to synthetic at my first oil change. Im going on my 3rd newring the 30k mark. Does anyone get start up ticks for a second or two with synthetic? Does this happen with all brands? Or no with better oil brands? I dont know what kind of synthetic my bros putting in at his shop. I just asked for the swap and he obliged.

Read syn thread, you may opt for a synthetic oil with a high molybdenum content, or even go further and get an ester based oil with a high moly content. read here. If it is just a start up tick almost surely it is lifter tick, and when the oil lubes it they quiet down. When they are dry at startup, Moly can be helpful. Another HUGE factor is filter, even though I have fixed my lifter tick with oil sometimes when I change filters, the tick seeps back in.

I can't recommend Royal Purple filters highly enough, synthetic fiber and high flow. Seriously, get one watch this. I cut my RP filter open at 14 months, still looked new. No way a paper filter would come close.

Oils to try, the cheapest would be Penzoil Yellow Bottle, just under 300PPM Moly. Motul or Redline, just under 900PPM moly and ester based. Penzoil Ultra and Penzoil Pltinum somewhere under 100ppm. A common theory is modern moly that is in all of these formulas only need be around 60ppm to be effective, and that is indeed the industry standard. However, sometimes engines that have an issue may benefit from having a higher Moly content. Anything else is just theory, but a fact is Redline oil and RP filter completely ended my tick.

I have a question?
how about this oil?
http://www.amazon.com/Pennzoil-5500...307197&sr=1-2&keywords=synthetic+oil+pennzoil

because my dealer is offered this oil and he tell me you can drive 10000km on this oil,I want to know if this oil designed to drive 10000km(6200 mile) and have the Efficiency in hot weather or not because the weather in my country is around 50ْc, and there is any benefits in change to this oil like reduce the tick from the engine and make the engine more cleaning.

I'm using mopar oil (factory oil) and this oil will be better then the one I using?

Will do. Fortunately I don't have the tick yet to get rid of, but I will pay attention to the valve train noise and see if it helps quite it down.

Sounds like your not in the US so it may be different for you so I would check your manual for your specific year. My truck is supposed to have 5w20 and is good up to 10k miles. Lots of guys here like the penzoil platinum so that may be the European equivalent if that's where you're located.

Hey Burla, I'm running Pennzoil Platinum 0w-20 with 899 Mopar filter (large). I noticed that sometimes that aggravating Hemi tick crap. I have a couple questions for you or anyone else that might know the answers to. I already know how you feel about the RP oil filter and Redline oil. If i could go down the road and buy them , then i would.

What's your thoughts about Motorcraft oil filters? Awhile back i read how great thier anti-drain back valve was.

Also, what's your thoughts about adding that Lucas oil stabilizer in the oil change? Seems like that might help the Hemi tick, right?

Ok, i just spent some time researching this myself and it seems like a bad idea for our MDS engines. Damn.

It has been a long time since I researched oil additives except Cerma, which I wouldn't buy again either. So Lucas is a zero additive product, and is basically a super thick mineral oil from the VOA's I remember. All this will do is thicken your oil and dilute your additive package. A better strategy in my opinion if this is what you wanted to do, is simply put in a thicker oil next change like 5w30 or 0w30. Then you would have thicker oil with the appropriate additive package. Many guys are running 5w30 with no issues with MDS, a very few did through a code but no damage occurred. I am moving to 5w30 myself.

I never tested a Mopar Filter. Honestly, you don't need to buy Redline oil, maybe you just need to try a RP filter. Why not give it a shot, even if it doesn't help your tick you have a filter that will at a very minimum last a year. So going back to the lucas strategy, when you change the filter you could dump it, and opt for a 5w30 QRT of redline. Instead of an entire oil change you could just do these two items that may help.

Back to your tick, do you think it is lubrication related? Did the tick come right after the oil change?

RAM HEMI you can definitely go more the 6200 miles on that oil, try double that and I bet the oil will still be good. The problem is finding a filter that would last that long, so you need a synthetic fiber filter. Read the synthetic oil thread, good info there for you.

Thank you for your reply, yes I'm not from US, I'm from Qatar and the dealer didn't have a printed user manual when they delivered the car.

Nah, it didn't come after the oil change. I have about 4,000 miles on this change. I never notice it when I'm in the truck. Whenever i heard it i was either outside the truck or had the window down. I'm really it does not do it all of the time...just occasionally. When it does do it, it makes the tick sound for a few seconds then completely stops.

The only synthetic filters I know are Royal Purple, Amsoil EA. Wix XP, Napa Platinum, Purolator Synthetic. I know RP are better then Purolator because I tested them, I have no information on all of the others. Maybe Fram Ultra is synthetic now, it is at least a combo like Mobil One filters. Combo last longer then paper, but not as long as 100% synthetic.

SJ, that could be exhaust tick too.

Pennzoil platinum 5 - 20 and I use a purolator filter. Change it after the first one, when the oil life is 20 % left. That's the way I do it. You don't need royal purple or the amsoil oils. I've been on forums for 15 years and seems there is always someone pushing those brand of oils. And it's usually someone that's a dealer.

Very good, I will see those brands and search if there is more filters brands on this type.

Thank you.

Nice choices man! :favorites13:

I am about to do my second Redline/Royal Purple change. I had planned on going to 5w30, but I accidentally ordered 5w20 again, so next time.

To back up what Burla was saying about running thicker oil. I'm running PYB 10w-30 in my 2014 with MDS and have had zero issues so far...almost at 10k miles now. I'm using that PYB with the small Fram Ultra filter for 4k OCI's and everything sounds good. I'll be changing again at 10k. I used to do 3k OCI's with my 2004 Hemi, figured I'd drop it to 4k since I assume that is plenty safe as well.

20% on the OLM is about the earliest I change. I'm (still) using some $2.00*** Citgo semi-syn I bought back in 2012. :roflsquared: (***That was $2 before the $1 a qt rebate,, Still have 3 1/2 cases left!!!)

Yeah, I've been thinking about that too. Would the exhaust tick only do it for such a short time (3-5 seconds)?
