Hey, 1st post for me. 2019 RAM ltd with 12” screen. It seems as if the GPS is not working. The compass in the drivers display is rarely showing the correct direction. When I open Nav, the location is nowhere near where I am, often it is out in the ocean or on an unnamed road. I assume these issues are connected to GPS not working?

Any ideas?

Thanks

I am having the same issues with my 19 RAM. How do you update your maps to show the actual location?

i don't know about with your newer trucks, BUT

somewhere it was written, that you should find an area, well away from concrete & steel structures & of course high power lines.
Then drive around in circles
I guess that you have to hope that there are at least 2 satellites overhead.

You can not triangulate a GPS unit with only one satellite in the local sky

See if your satellites are showing anything. On our 8.4 (2018 Grand Cherokee), satellites showed no signal being received. Dealer tried to update it. No go. Replaced radio, good again.
I realize you have a 12”, but GPS may be just be nonfunctional. Hopefully if you need a replacement, you still have warranty.

Hello everyone. My GPS in my 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie doesn't work and hasn't for a long time. It shows I am on South Flores Street in San Antonio, Tx. That would be great but I live and am in Memphis, TN. Also the compass shows I am headed SW when I am headed North. The dealer here on Covington Pike says it will take a new radio for 1000.00 plus labor to fix this problem. I got so mad at the air shocks not working I pulled them off and installed regular Monroe shocks and have been happy ever since. I wanted this 8.4 radio to work but it keeps giving many problems like taking 7 to 12 minutes sometimes just to turn on. I have driven 5 miles before I see the Ram logo. I am about ready to contact the DA of Tennessee to look into this hunk of junk released on the public. I have owned and still own 4 gps units - 3 from Garmin and 1 from Pioneer. All work perfectly ever though 1 is over 10 years old! I have never heard of a gps that can't find a satellite!

One time i reset my Navigation in the MENU
It asked if i wanted to set HOME

I did not want to set my actual address, so just down the street is a Welfare Office at a major intersection, so i made the address my HOME, since then, the Nav shows where i am.
It still does not route me the shortest way to get where i want to go, but it does give a reasonable alternate route

I have a 2013 Ram Laramie and the GPS is very intermittent. I've only had this truck 2.5 years and the GPS has always acted up. Sometimes it'll work and then the next time I start it up and drive off, it is not heading in the same direction as the compass reading on the dash panel, which is usually correct. My software version is 16.13.13, so I went to driveuconnect.com, put my VIN in and it came back with "Your vehicle is up to date." and "There are no updates available at this time for your 2013 equipped with this system." The NaviServer version is 9.10.2.400609. The map database version is from 06/27/2012. I've searched threads for help, but can't find one that pinpoints the issue.

I guess this is slightly (?) off topic, but...

If you have a cell phone with GPS why would you pay extra for the vehicle mfr to provide it for you - AND THEN charge you extra every year or three to update it?

ESPECIALLY since almost every new vehicle these days, including RAM, allow you to plug your phone in, and use CarPlay or AndroidAuto to connect your phone to your 12" (or even "tiny" 8.4") display?

And Google updates road data in near Real Time for No Charge.

I had a similar issue with my Gen4 truck. Had to take it to the dealer, to manually load some updates for the fix.

UPDATE to my last post in Apr 2023. I have found that the GPS works most of the time when it's cooler weather, even cold. But when spring rolled around, it was intermittent and when summer got here, it just flat quit working. Any thoughts on that?

UPDATE: I've come to the conclusion that the GPS only works when the weather is cool/cold. Once Spring/Summer comes around, it quits working. So it is obviously a heat related problem. Any thoughts on this? Maybe the heat is causing the antenna to expand and lose contact?
