so, ram is in the shop. mechanic drove it and said NOTHING is wrong. it didnt slip out of gear for him like it does me, nor when he put it in reverse. when i put it in reverse it wouldnt move... trans fluid was pinkish brown and said transmission needs to be flushed every 20k miles. said he can flush it and it should be fine.
so, if its true, remote start and new dash next.

Your truck should be running ATF+4 and that normaly holds its color good. Has the truck ever had a flush and how many miles are on it?

i'm not sure on the older rams, but I know on my 05 the trans service was scheduled for 60,000 miles. If they are saying every 20,000 they might be just trying to get money

Figured that. I don't understand how changing my fluid can suddenly make it stop slipping out of gear, and stop all the other problems too.. like when I put it in reverse how it doesn't move. I heard too, that I'd something is wrong, that I will be able to tell in a few days of changing it... ****.

ya if its slipping out of gear don't really think a fluid change will help you might have deeper internal problems did you take it to a normal mech or a tranny place

Changing the filters can also help if a tranny isn't functioning properly.

Sometimes the spin on filter, when its time to be replaced will cause the tranny to lag a few seconds on a cold start to switch gears.

Normal mechanic. It was only that one time that it slipped, nut it did it three or four times in a five minute span. And it doesn't move sometimes in reverse. Linkage maybe, too? Grandpaw is a diesel mechanic offshore, he said it may be just the oil, too.

If you are having problems and the tech can't reproduce them don't let them flush the transmission. The metal in the pan/fluid/filters can give clues to transmission specialists. Flushing those out can erase any clues to the real problem. A transmission problem has never been fixed by changing the fluid. I went through this with my old Crown Vic, ended up being totally screwed up. But it took longer to diagnose because they flushed the fluid.

Now we play the waiting game. Flushed today by a tranny shop, said it can only help since I have low mileage, that it was still pink but you can tell it was thin and worn.didn't ask if they have shavings though.... within a few days I should know, I have a 2 hour drive tomorrow one way trip, if it acts up again, pulling into a dealership.
