is the battery located on the left front corner of the truck. too? Maybe it's a galvanic corrosion issue? Dissimilar metals and acid gases given off by the battery. That's why I asked if the entire hood was aluminum, or if it was a mix of steel and aluminum..

Good reason to get aftermarket hood :happy107:

Mine has a pretty good scratch on it but not bad enough to sway the lil lady.

Opposite side of the hood from the battery.

So I just got my truck back from the dealership....they couldn't fix my electrical issues, again, so it has to go back. However, I did have a mini break through regarding the hood.

Chrysler did not want to cover it because I am out of the Basic 3yr/36k Warranty (My truck is 2 years old with 41k miles) but the service manager got them to give in and they are replacing my hood completely and painting it. BUT, I must cover all cost for a rental and was given an estimate of 4 days that I will be without a vehicle. Now I need to see if it is worth the hassle of going through with this new headache.

2.2 Corrosion Warranty A. Who Is Covered? You are covered if you are a purchaser for use of the vehicle. B. What’s Covered This warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair or replace any sheet metal panels that get holes from rust or other corrosion. If a hole occurs because of something other than corrosion, this warranty does not apply. Cosmetic or surface corrosion — resulting, for example, from stone chips or scratches in the paint — is not covered. For more details on what isn’t covered by this warranty, see 3.5. WHAT’S COVERED UNDER CHRYSLER GROUP LLC’S WARRANTIES
8
C. How Long It Lasts The Corrosion Warranty starts when your Basic Limited Warranty begins under 2.1(E). This warranty has two time-and-mileage limits: • For sheet metal panels, the limit is 36 months, with no mileage limit. • For an outer-body sheet metal panel — one that is finish-painted and that someone can see when walking around the vehicle — the limits are 5 years or 100,000 miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first.

3.5 Certain Kinds of Corrosion Not Covered Your warranties don’t cover the following: • corrosion caused by accident, damage, abuse, or vehicle alteration; • surface corrosion caused by such things as industrial fallout, sand, salt, hail, ocean spray, and stones; • corrosion caused by the extensive or abnormal transport of caustic materials like chemicals, acids, and fertilizers; and • corrosion of special bodies, body conversions, or equipment that was not on your vehicle when it left the manufacturing plant or was not supplied by Chrysler.

May want to PM the RamCares Rep here.

If they will cover the hood then you should be covered. Period.

I was provided a rental with my warranty paint repair work and it wasn't correct the first time, or second, so it may be longer than they plan on. (I am still under my 3/36 also).

Your should see what they say about the warranty quoted above (good info btw). And if you don't feel like they are coming around/supporting your claim to corporate then see about getting the RamCares Rep from the forum involved

Alright so the other day I was looking at my truck and I noticed something that looked odd on my hood. Once I got closer I could tell what it was and quiet honestly I can't believe it. 2 years old and 41k miles... we have rust bubbling on the surface of the hood as well as underneath. There is no rock chip as you can see in the picture. As crazy as it sounds, its almost like it is rusting from the inside out. From what I am hearing RAMs corrosion warranty is 5yr 100k miles which I fall within by a landslide. However, I am hearing that it only covers you if you have rust holes?!? I'm sorry but a 2 year old truck should NOT have rust like this already. I have talked with a couple other people I know who have Chrysler vehicles and they have had similar issues.

Looks like when I take my truck into the dealer as I give them a list of things going wrong with this truck, again, for the 20th time since April, I can add the rusty hood to it.

I'm beyond the point of being pissed off.
Looks like somebody switch the hood

Possible

Stringer , The Original Poster

Take a magnet to that section or any part of the hood , if it sticks its steel and not the factory hood

Factory hood is made out of aluminum

Aluminum however will corrode and pit

Did you buy the truck brand new off the lot ? Was it involved in an front end accident at one time while you owned it

When I originally read the above warranty yesterday, I said well, the warranty does say it only covers a hole in the sheet metal. But, after re-reading it, I am thinking there is a grey area in the text:

"Cosmetic or surface corrosion — resulting, for example, from stone chips or scratches in the paint — is not covered."

My corrosion is cosmetic on my hood that is NOT the result from a stone chip or scratch. So, if cosmetic corrosion that is the result from a stone chip or scratch is not covered, I am going to assume that it should be covered in my case... right?

Why put "resulting, for example, from stone chips or scratches in the paint — is not covered" in the warranty details if the warranty isn't designed to cover surface corrosion. If they don't cover cosmetic or surface corrosion, why not leave the text as "Cosmetic or surface corrosion is not covered" instead of adding factors (stone chips/scratches) to it

I think I am going to be having a little chat with the service manager today. On top of this, I think they should be covering a rental regardless. Since the beginning of April, my truck has been at the dealership at least once...EVERY. OTHER. WEEK! I believe yesterday was visit #20 for me for the same issue. I have had nothing but electrical nightmares with this truck with the main issue regarding the radio, in which, they have replaced 4 times already...working on #5 as of now. There have been multiple times where they kept my truck for longer than a day and I have asked for a loaner vehicle so I could get back and forth to work.... not much to ask for, right? Every time it has been "they are all out, we can't give you anything." Every time I have had to drop my truck off and pick it up, I have had to get a co-worker to take off work with me and help me. The dealership is lucky that I have been allowed to do this as much as I have....

I am the second owner and no accidents. I mean the previous owner could have switched the hood off the record if something happened but this seems to be a common issue with a lot of trucks I am finding out.

I thought the same thing when I saw it. I always ask for a carfax when buying a used vehicle. I was inspecting the truck before I saw the carfax and told the salesman that the truck had been in a crash before and whoever did the paint job didn't decontaminate the metal or the booth one. Turns out the carfax was clear. NO crashes or accidents.....reported.

Hey Andrea, do you have a Ramcares Canadian counterpart? I'm quite happy with my truck & was just inquiring?

Update for those who are following:

Andrea with RamCares took notice of my issues and reached out to me. After giving her my VIN and contact info, she responded to me with an offer from FCA to reimburse my expenses on a rental during the replacement process of my hood.

My truck goes back to the dealership tomorrow for the service department to do more tests on the electrical and I will be advising the service manager to go ahead and order the new hood and also to set up a rental for the duration of the repair.

I will continue to update as things move along.

Hi joeygster--we do not have a Canadian counterpart on this forum, unfortunately. If you do have any concerns, we can pass them on--but I'm glad you have none thus far!
