If it’s like my FT-60 then it’s probably because it’s a collar knob.

I would keep it an use it. Doesn’t seem like it’s something to worry about.

Image should be attached. I want to call Yaesu first then decide. I am old enough to remember all my transistor radio's and when those knobs started to go, the radio became useless. I am probably tripping back to my childhood...LOL

This is being way over though

I have an Ft3dr and the collared volume knob has normal amounts of movement.

It will be just fine.

Stop intentionally wiggling it[emoji23][emoji23]

LOL, it caught my eye and like I said, was probably tripping back to my younger days. I did call Yaesu and the tech there was able to produce the same on his FT3DR, so it does appear to be in the engineering. Though the Yaesu tech/customer support guy said he was also now bugged by it as he hadn't noticed it before either...So I created angst all around, but they aren't cheap radios so I just wanted to be sure. Thanks for the input.

LoL now they are gonna pull them all off the shelf and reengineer it. Damnit! Hahahaha.

All good newer electronics won’t be as solid as the old stuff you have been used to.

I have a question to ponder:

If you were to use a tool box lid, fender or any other smaller antenna mounting point, would it make any difference if you were to run a braided cable from that mounting point to a larger metal surface like say the cab roof, at a point that it could not be seen, like under the roof liner ?

By the way, i am not offended when you call me a silly CBer
I've been using CBs since the late 1970s
My current business is required by Federal Law to have a CB in my vehicle

I am currently running a Ranger 6900 F150 turbo 10 meter band

I run a squirrel cage fan below the radio to cool the heat sinks

This is my old truck, but the 2016 antenna is mounted in the exact same place

To answer your question no. The antenna uses the metal surface underneath it as a ground plane to enhance its ability to propagate a signal.

Getting into HAM. Testing this weekend. Fingers crossed. Has anyone used the antenna from https://compactenna.com ??? or replaced the shark fin antenna (GPS/SAT) with a similar antenna.
Good luck on the test! Looks like a compromised antenna. Why not mount one via lip mount on hood or bed pocket stake mount. Then you can have similar clearance with a longer antenna.

^^^^ Agree with all of what’s said above. All antennas are a compromise, find the least compromised one.

Diamond seems to have all their **** in the sock.

My 19" is not cutting it. Going to have to go up. Wish I knew if a 40" would satisfy or if I'll have to abandon fender mount

Well ease of removal and connection goes to nmo.

Yep that's the exact one I looked at earlier. I'll prob order after work. Good length. Almost would clear my barn door. I would imagine you guys have it on the roof?
