Hand gun/pistol mounts

Hello everyone. I'm a Corrections Officer with my CCW. I'm interested in everyone's ideas on types of car mounts and mounting areas in the truck to have my weapon readily available. Thanks for your help.

I have one of those magnetic things on the kick pad under the dash. It works ok, but it's not special. I have a locking console for storage if not on my hip.

99% of the time, it's on my hip.

Most of my vehicles have a gun storage compartment build right into the driver side door

I had a stinger mount on the side of the center console, just next to my knee on my 1500. I liked it because it had a trigger guard and was easy to pop in and out. Long distances with a carry on my waist gets uncomfortable because I get sweaty.

Haven't put one in my 2500 yet, but plan to put the same one back in it.

Gun Storage in Tradesman?

I've got a 14 Tradesman with the bench seat in the front. I was curious to see how other guys have their sidearms stored in their trucks. I have my XD .45 in the pull out tray under the stereo. I tried to fabricate a foam cutout but that didnt go too well. How do you guys do it?

My SHTF is mounted on back wall of cab, after doing rear seat mod, but it takes me a good 30 seconds to get out, go back, tilt seat and grab, so utterly worthless to you

I don't care for off body carry. if you leave the vehicle, it necessitates moving the gun back to your holster which naturally means more gun handling. Anytime a gun is handled the chances for a ND/AD increase.

If you leave the gun in the vehicle, the odds of it being stolen increase.

Here we go again.....the best place for your pistol is on your body. This way if you ever get separated from your truck, for whatever reason...the least likely is an ejection....you still have your pistol. But I guess that's the difference with law enforcement and corrections....corrections guys are used to having their firearm locked up while on duty.

would be nice if you could mold that slim area along side the console to fit a gun of your choice. That area is useless except for papers and losing things that you can't get out.

Well when I'm traveling for 3 or more hours in the truck, I rather be comfortable. I'm on the heavier side and sitting puts extra pressure on my side and weapon. On a side note, are you a ham radio operator?

Off body carry sucks. I've had more than one case of people shot and killed while trying to get to their off body carry, as in the situations you typically need a pistol quickly you're under observation and unexplained movements get you shot. On person carry still sucks if you're seated, but at least if you get removed from your vehicle you still have it, if you're under direct observation reaching to unclip your seat belt is expected movement, and if you don't have an opening just yet you're still not known to be armed. Additionally, unless you believe yourself to be infallible, more gun handling in an enclosed space where it's difficult to avoid flagging yourself also occasionally leads to new holes in the body you wanted to avoid.

If you need to be comfortable, put it in your purse. If you want to give yourself the best odds of prevailing in the very unlikely event you need it, nut up and carry it on your person.

It's a European Man bag and off-body carry. ;-) The lower trim vehicles do have some advantages since you can flip up the center console to give more room on the right side if you are right handed. I get that waist carry can be painfully uncomfortable for larger folks like us. If you are able to reach your ankle fairly easily, an ankle or calf holster provides on-body carry but the draw is not as quick as waist carry. All carry modes have pluses and minuses. Just need to select the best mode for the situation and always practice, practice, practice with a dummy gun for all the modes you might use.

That’s funny I always thought Fanny packs were girly until I had to carry on long hikes with a lot of gear,bear spray ect. Just the amount of condensation on the firearm made me leave the holster behind.
