I have a 2002 quad cab and the original head unit is toast, it will play cd's only when the mood strikes.

it is an infinity system.

i was looking around at options and came across a kenwood kmm-bt308u, like the idea of being able to play and charge my iphone from the usb. don't need a cd player as i all the music i want is in my phone.

i don't want this complicated and don't care about amps, subs or the rest of that (i'm old) i just want to hear music. i want to keep the orginal amp, it's loud enough and sounds fine to me.

so now the questions:

can i keep the original amp and speaker set up?

if not, would i be wise to wire the new deck to the existing speakers maintaing the 7 speaker set up?

will the kit from crutchfield (metra 70-6502) work with the infinity set up?

the other option is to just replace the original deck with the same one, but i can't seem to find one within a reasonable distance.

any other tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is the exact question I registered for. I haven't been able to find a clear answer on this either.

If your truck is an 02 with infinity also, that harness listed in the first post should work. Luckily for you guys 02 was before data systems and can-bus crap took everything over. I believe the infinity amps used in the 02's used a normal FR/FL/RR/RL input and then the amp did the crossover work and sent the signal out to all 7 speakers. So that 70-6502 harness should work fine for using an aftermarket radio with the factory infinity system. Just make sure to hook up all the blue and blue/white wires on the 70-6502 harness to the BLUE/WHITE wire on your new radio harness. If your new radio has a solid blue wire don't use it. Use the blue/white wire. Without doing this the factory infinity amp will not turn on and you'll have no sound.

Hey guys I ordered the stuff from crutchfield and installed it all without issue. The adaptor worked perfect and the whole install took less than an hour. The infinity amp works fine and the whole system sounds good enough for my purposes.

I ordered the steering wheel adaptor but didn't install it. Decided that it was more work than it worth.

Good deal, the steering wheel adapters aren't usually too bad but I guess it depends on how much you used them.

No it probably wouldn't have been. But I figured that I've gotten this far without one that I really would t miss it.
