Hey guys, I have finally had the broken bolts on the Exhaust manifold. Went to the dealer to schedule warranty work and asked about what all they did as part of the procedure. They told me that the extract the bolts and just replace the broken bolt. They do not replace all the bolts and they do not check to see if the manifold is warped. Ive read a lot on here about this issue and it seems that the fix is either to switch to shorties or long tubes (prob will this summer) or the dealership fixes with the warped manifold on a belt sander or machine shop. Im curious as to why my dealership does not even check for warp much less fix it? Any techs on here that can give the actual procedure from Chrysler when doing this repair. Just seems to me that its being half way done.

Manifolds don’t get replaced or machined under warranty because FCA won’t pay for it, and got tired of replacing manifolds.Even though there is a spec for warpage, 0.008” per foot. Pretty much any manifold with broken bolts will have closer to 0.030-0.050 of warp.

Many dealers have got their pp slapped by warranty for following FCAs service procedure. Now they’re told just throw the old one back on.

FCA will only pay for whatever hardware is broken. So if only 1 broke, you get 1 new bolt and the gasket, that’s it.

Tach tech, when did that start? We haven't done any for a couple months.

Honestly it seems to be a case by case basis. They were coming down on us hard for a couple years about it because we used to send them to get machined. Then they said no to that, replace the manifold if it’s warped. So we did that and pretty much every one was warped. Then they came down on us for that, we had one of the head warranty guys come down, we even showed him how warped they are. Literally showed him with a straight edge and feeler gauges. Told us just to put them back on. Apparently they’re revising the service procedure which I’m pretty sure is an outright lie, because nothing has changed.

So FCA is telling techs to just put the, pretty much broken, piece of equipment back onto the vehicle? Isnt that some kind of safety hazard of some kind? I mean dang thats pretty crappy. Im tempted to but the AFE short headers to put on after this is fixed so I dont have to worry about it anymore but im just not that knowledgeable as to what I need. Im assuming headers, gasket, and bolts.

I'm now curious if it would be beneficial to have the dealer replace your broken stud and then immediately after put your aftermarket headers on knowing your studs are good to go..
I wonder what mile range is covered by warranty, I too have a cracked bolt.

They’re covered under powertrain warranty.

We ran into the same thing a while back, we were on restriction and had to call and get them authorized.
Never had anyone actually tell me to reuse warped manifolds, but it doesn't surprise me.

I'll throw my 2 cents in as I just recently had to deal with a broken stud on the passenger side (95,000km) so I luckily still had my powertrain. I talked with a service advisor and the tech doing the job for a bit before leaving the dealer while they did the work. They fully acknowledged the issue and what causes it etc, but said they won't sand the manifolds flat on a belt sander or replace with new manifolds. They did however remove both manifolds and replace ALL the hardware and new gaskets, not just the one broken stud.

Update on the warranty: Its 5 years OR 100k, whichever comes first. So im stuck doing studs myself. Called my dealer to verify.

has anyone tried the Doorman replacement manifolds? I wonder if they hold up better than the ones from Chrysler.

The ones we tried were junk, bolt holes didn’t even line up properly.

well then, I guess its going to be me trying to convince the dealer to send them out to be refinished. Or finding and taking it to a shop willing to do it after the dealer fixes the bolts

You should be able to find a set of used stock manifolds easily, and very cheap,as lots of guys swap to headers.Take them in and have them machined or sanded flat, then tell the dealer you want them installed instead of your original manifolds

Just have the dealer fix the broken bolt and then slap those shorties on .... @the_goodguy07 and I will be doing it to his truck since he has the first pass bolt on the passenger side completely snapped off but is still inside ....

I will probably do it to mine as well to prevent it from happening ... and it doesn't take that long to take off ... don't be scared to tackle this on your own ...

really thinking about it. Looking at the AFE shorts, just dont know that much about headers in general. I like them because it fixes the problem without needing to do any tuning to the truck. Only thing im not sure about is the heat coming off of them and the components around them with that heat. AFE says not to wrap them so im kinda curious about if anyone has any heat issues
