Just curious, do shorty headers require a programmer to modify engine parameters to account for the exhaust manifold changes?

No you don’t need to do anything like that. Shorties don’t really do to much when it comes to adding performance.

really thinking about it. Looking at the AFE shorts, just dont know that much about headers in general. I like them because it fixes the problem without needing to do any tuning to the truck. Only thing im not sure about is the heat coming off of them and the components around them with that heat. AFE says not to wrap them so im kinda curious about if anyone has any heat issues

I got these JBA ones from Moes. I live in the northeast and have had them on Two Winters and they look the same with no leaks. I used the bolts that came with them and Remflex Gaskets. No Issue with heat whatsoever.

They came right from the JBA Factory when ordered from Moes

If the dealer is going to do the job and not mess with the manifolds, consider buying a set of Remflex exhaust gaskets and having them install those instead of the stickers. I don't have experience on a Hemi with them, but we use them on our IH Scouts (warp prone and hard to deal manifold) and Chevy LS engines with warped manifolds and cheap owners. You will need to talk to the tech and make sure he reads the instructions- they're thicker, softer, take a lot less torque to seal, but will close an almost 1/16" gap and never burn out.

Well I'm hearing that all studs and warped manifolds are not replaced when an exhaust leak is discovered.
A warped manifold will not seal properly with new gasket and bolts.


Make sure you talk to the technician or shop manager to incourage that the proper repair would be to check surface of manifold, surface grind, or replace if warped. When one or two studs/ bolts snap off, it puts stress on the next studs on the manifold. Insure all studs/bolts are replaced, including the manifold flange bolts and nuts. If your dealer does not do this quality level of work, find another shop!!
I have had both sides replaced on my truck under warranty. I have double checked my paper work and all studs were replaced along with a new gasket. Manifold was not replaced or surfaced grinded. I do know that this repair was done as soon as I first herd the leak. That alone would of reduced the warpage on the manifold. I hope the $150. an hour technician would of checked for warpage on any manifold leak..

That’s how it should be done but it comes down to what FCA wants to pay for and it seems to be a dealer by dealer basis wether or not they allow them to perform the repair properly.

As of right now we’re only allowed to replace the broken stud and gasket, that’s it.

Laughable. You don’t ask them to do something you tell them.... I have spent hundreds of thousands at my dealer and when I hd a broken bolt in my 2010 a few years back, I told them to pull them all on both sides and replace them ALL with new. Verified that they did the work. End of discussion... Don’t ask, tell them to fix it right!

We give the customer the option of replacing the extra hardware but they have to pay for just the parts at a discounted rate. If we replace anything past what’s actually faulty our warranty centre will charge back the entire job and now the dealer not FCA has to pay for it. It’s retarded.

A customer can come in a tell us whatever they want but if FCA won’t reimburse the dealer isn’t likely to pay for it out of pocket.

While I agree with the concept, it comes down to customer sat. They KNOW the bolts WILL fail. I stated that over the past 25 odd years I have bought numerous cars from the same dealer. They tend to treat me different than a guy who just bought one car from them but..... they shouldn’t!
