I like the sound my Ram Sport makes now and would not like to have it much louder but I want headers.

I am thinking going with the ARH long tubes and keeping the stock muffler, resonators and tailpipes. I have close neighbors whom I like and respect and I leave pretty early most mornings. I don't want to create a lot of noise for them or for me either. I am over 65 and not the aggressive type but I like to feel the power.

Already enjoying the hp gain from my BT catch can but long range I am planning the headers, Moe's throttle body, S&B CAI, and tuner. You know, the normal bolt ons. If I leave the stock muffler on there will that negate any performance gain from adding long tube headers?

Any opinions or experience would be helpful in deciding.

As long as you go with the high flow cats, noise won't be an issue. The tone will be a little deeper, but not much louder if you go with the arh system with high flow cats.

Yes, we have emission checks in WA but they just usually plug into the OBD port to check for codes. New vehicles are exempt for the first 5 years.

The State emission check stations are private contractors and once I brought in an early air cooled rear engined Porsche (no OBD port) and the tech checked the tail pipe emissions and then asked me to open the front hood. He was real surprised to not see an engine. Didn't bother to look in the rear.

IMO if you're keeping the stock muffler there's no point in adding long tube headers. Any flow increase you gain from the headers is going to be negated by the muffler as it will be your restriction point. If you're going to do headers then I'd be doing a full exhaust system with them.

This. Just did the same thing back in the fall w/ my old 2013 GMC Sierra 6.2. I had a magnaflow w/ otherwise stock exhaust, I put lts & ory on it w/ the stock muffler(thinking the stock muffler would be quieter, after swapping realized it wasnt any quieter than the 22" magnaflow at all, just different tone) & I barely noticed a power increase from the headers. Ran pretty much the same et at the track w/ lts, ory & stock muffler vs stock everything else & magnaflow. I put the 22" magnaflow back on & noticed a power increase instantly and ran 2 tenths better at the track as well. If your doing headers then do a muffler also. Just do high flow cats, big magnaflow & keep the resonators

Glad I wasnt the only 1. Lol

I was going to say something too, but decided to inform rather than laugh ;) ...

...but no, a catch can does not increase HP directly, however it can help to keep an engine clean and maintain the original HP longer :waytogo:

You can still make great power with the stock muffler in place. Going to a full catback system is only going to show about a 5-8hp gain where a set of quality longtubes with better flowing y-pipe and cats is going to show about a 25hp gain. Nothing at all wrong with keeping the stock muffler if you want the power gains without the noise.

Right on! Thanks for that input.

Good stuff right there. Matt has good advice and has evolved with these 4th Gen Trucks since Day 1. I definitely love my factory Muffler as its nice to drive at least one smooth quiet Factory Hemi when you have two 5.7 Mopars. Danny

I went with long tubes and stock exhaust on my truck because I live in apartment complex for now and leave really early in the mornings. But I also added a electric cut out for when I wanna be loud.
