I have projector lenses.

So I purchased DDM Tuning low beams and couldn't fit everything in to the housing and couldn't find a decent location to mount so I'm turned off and will be selling (maybe any of you are interested) or returning the brand new unit.

I installed the high beam 9011 to 9005 conversion bulbs and those work amazing.

Question about this trick now is: If I do this to the low beams as well with a more blueish color, do I risk any issues with heat? Or are there really NO downsides at all to doing the 9011 to 9005 conversion and can go right ahead doing the same for the low beams because they take 9005 as well?

Then the issues with the grill and headlight removal...

Broke the inner fender white pull tab on drivers side and broke a push pin style clip on the front grill. Attached are the pictures; first picture is what the intact one looks like and the following picture is the broken one...

How do I go about getting a new white plastic tab and the exact black push pin? I have push pin retainer sets, but not that exact boxy style pin...

Thanks...

I broke the white tab on my previous 4th gen. It wasn’t imperative to replace it. The light pops into place. The pin just locks it in. The screws that secure the lights do all the work. If you’d feel better about replacing it you’ll probably have to start with your dealer.

I’m running DDM and although other people have had success cramming everything in the housing I won’t chance it. I drilled the 1” hole for the supplied grommet, and I secured the metal ballasts to the steel frame on the truck underneath the housing. I used metal tap screws. It worked perfect!

As far as 9011 for lows you shouldn’t have any issues with heat if you decide to go that route.

Agreed it's nice and tight even without both the broken pieces..but honestly would prefer to fix it for myself if possible I'm **** like that haha and won't go admitting to the dealer I was attempting to replace a "dealer replaceable" item on my own, they'll have a fit ha.

Yea I didn't wanna drill either even though I know I coulda made it work...

Actually cant find any blueish 9011s...

Yea that's what I'm thinking.. I am seeing LED can bus 9005s though so not sure why those couldn't work in lows (even though they marketing for highs)

LED’s work great in quads. They tend to scatter in projectors, which is why HID is king in that department.

Great point just what I needed to hear thank you!!! Maybe I can find some 9011 bluish type if I can't find 9005 blueish. But then again maybe the blue low with white high would look weird...not looking for crazy blue just maybe 5500k-6000k

Right on,

Here’s a pic of how someone else managed to cram everything in their projectors. In case you decide to give it another go.

Hahahaha you rock. Def tempting me with another go now.... I tried it similar way but didnt have it sticking up as much and have NO IDEA how they got BOTH black boxes on the exact same side that's crazy.. I did run out of light anyway so didn't have much of a choice had to get her all back together. Found the white clip. Searching for black push pin now.

Also wasn't happy how it's not as tight of a seal the bulb inside as the old one was.

Haha, like I said, I took the safe route and drilled the hole. I’m heavy handed so I was afraid I’d rip a wire apart in the housing trying to cram everything in there. I’ve also read stories of people unable to adjust their lights after installing because everything was so tight, but they were only a couple of people with that issue. Just letting you know lol.

So I recently bought u bar tail lights and smoke LED 3rd brake light (prob returning because illegal I assume).

Looking to upgrade my factory projectors to maybe a u bar style type of projector.

Looking for smoke or black housing with CLEAR lens! Must be plug and play.

Assuming no LED or even HID because of the need for conversions and more work so guess I’ll stick to straight halogens. Most DRLs seem to want a wire tap I’m not doing on this new truck so maybe DRLs are out of the question I don’t even know anymore.

Been researching here and all over but guess it’s not possible to find black/smoke housing with clear lens for projectors that’s just plug and play...

Thanks

I second this, you can make something that looks much more custom with some paint, can also add halos and upgrade projectors if you desired. Maybe even some switchbacks.

The absolute hardest part of a DIY is getting them apart. Once that hurdle is jumped the rest is just fun. Painting, adding halos, leds, projectors, accents and so on. You say your returning the tail lights because they are likely illegal, Ive got some bad news for you on the headlights if thats the reasoning.

Actually think I’m keeping tail lights they have clear lens black housing.

3rd brake light already shipped, but according to the source, “They stated that because this is only the third tail light, there would not be a need for DOT approval. If it were the regular tail lights or head lights, then that would be a different story. “ Yet it is DOT approved they said... Sales team said, “and they informed me that if they are tinted or smoked in anyway, they are illegal while on the road and in motion.” Trying to have a buddy ask a cop.

DOT is fancy talk for pay money for us to let your product on the road. If they are visible in all light your more than OK. If you get pulled over for tinted lights, the cops were looking for something else. Born and raised LEO brat myself and anytime my parents ever pulled over for something like a tail light or headlight issue was due to suspicion of something else.

I got real dark tint on windows so no way I’m getting out without a ticket if they pull over for a 3rd brake light tint lol. Always thought as long as you HAVE it you can’t get in trouble because it’s not regulated like brake and head lights. Who knows anymore.
