Heating problems

I recently replaced my thermostat in my 2003 dodge. After replacing it temp gauge goes from cold to overheat, where the check gauges light comes on. Then it goes back to the cool side. It does this two time before it starts to heat up inside. Any ideas?

T-Stat in upside down, air in system, bad water pump. Why did you replace it in the first place, those symptoms may help.
