Just got a call from my dealer and he said that "receiver/dryer" is missing some parts or that the hose is missing from that. I can't find anything at autozone with a description of a "receiver/dryer" can someone point me in the right direction. They want $248.00 to install and charge the system. I'm hoping to find the part cheaper.

This sounds like we're talking about Air Conditioning here. Could you take pictures under the hood? I find it very hard to believe you are missing hoses etc.

Well I called them back and said I'm not paying you for the evacuated/charge that you did today because any trained mechanic would see that I was missing the hose that comes from the receiver/ drier through the firewall into the cab. Why would anyone try and charge the system if the system wasn't sealed? So after work I go get my truck and they told me they would wave the charge today and they will fix the system tomorrow with a new receiver / drier with hose , complete evacuated and charge of the system as well as an oil change for a total of $266.90 I'm happy with that. Parts alone are over $100.00 plus the oil change was $40.00 plus an extra quart of oil. Add to that they threw in 3 free oil changes for me to use. So long story but I'm looking forward to having a working air conditioner.

Did they say they had to evac the system? If they did all the parts are. Was the ac blowing cold when you took it in? all the receiver/ drier/ Accumulator is basically a filter for moisture. Down here its about 76 at AZ. Alot of time the o rings go bad. The only times I've replaced them is if you open the system for a long time or replace compressor. Dealer love to f you over. I should know I work for one.

No the system wasn't working at all. I bought this truck last winter so had no reason to look or try it. Honestly I've noticed many times while under the hood that the pipes coming from the drier had nothing attached to them, I just didn't realize what I was looking at. They told me the charged the system, I might have been mistaken about the evac.

I rarely go to a dealer but the service writer I use usually does okay by me. He knows I'm capable of doing things myself and will suggest it when its going to be too expensive. He has also had me buy some aftermarket parts like Moog parts when he knew I buy them cheaper then the mopar stuff. I'm not sure I've ever paid full price with him so i cut him some slack.

Just to let you know they get the parts at a 20-40% discount, then mark it up 60-80% to make more money. Replacing the lines is about an hour of labor. As far as pulling a vacuum and charging it you cant avoid it. The tools are too costly to buy for one job. You could pull parts from a junk yard to save a little bit. Just make sure you pressure test the lines before install. High side line 135 psi. Low side line 35-45 psi, to make sure its good.

I told them I was going to buy the parts at auto zone if they didn't cut the price and they said they would match the price. I look at it this way, I'm getting 4 oil changes and a new accumulator with lines installed and my system charged for $266.90 I don't think I can do much better than that.
