Screenshot_20190414-224009_WhatsApp.jpg Hey guys I'm new to the Forum, I have a 2012 dodge ram 1500 5.7l v8. I was wondering if you guys can inform me a little more about the rear differential fluid change and cover. I took a look at it and my cover does not have a opening where I can fill it after doing the fluid change, so I was thinking about changing the cover and getting something better but I have no idea what kind of rear differential cover I need .? If you guys can give me more information about how to do the fluid change and what I need that would be great. Thanks

I did the G2 Hammer.

It looks awesome to me.

Has drain and fill holes.

I opted for Amsoil Severe Gear fluid.

Edit. Can’t recall for certain but I think it’s 9.25” cover you need. Confirm that on your own.

Just search the interwebs for your year of truck for the correct cover.

Does the Nitro cover fit the 4x4 as well? 6” lift on mine too :)

That is so trippy! How the hell did they get fluid in there?

I had to go look at mine. You and I both have drain plugs. I felt around and could not find a fill hole other than my plug.

There has to be a method to get fluid in there.

An after market cover will cost you good money with little benefit and potential to be a disadvantage if used incorrectly. Maybe one of the other posters will be nice enough to give you their old one.

I used a 2' clear hose, put one end on the fluid cap, one in the fill hole and squeezed it in there. Took some time as it was coller, but if fluid is semi warm, should go in easy.
Should fit a 4x4 as well.

They sure look better, even on a nice clean, black rear axle.

Many OEM diff covers don’t have a drain plug, just peel off the cover to drain. All axles have a fill plug.

Remember junkyard wars? Guys pulled the diff cover off before seeing if the fill plug was seized. It was seized so they put 2qts of 75w90 into a huge ziplock bag, stuffed it in the diff, put the cover on and let the gears shred it open.
