My truck recently started to have this noise I never had it's hemi 5.7 with 80k on it, took it to dealer they changed the exhaust manifold bolts didn't fix it they claim they changed 4 fuel injectors and still I have the noise, I'm starting to wonder if they don't want to fix it since my warranty is almost expired and it's a big job to fix it

Hi Will891,
We understand why this may be frustrating. Has a case been opened on the customer care side to aid in this repair? If not, please send our team a private message and we would be happy to get this process started for you!

At 63k had a tick and they replaced the manifold bolts.

I had the same noise at 80,300 brought it in, they had it for a week, changed the timing chain, camshaft pully and tensioner along with some other crap that was covered under warranty. Called to follow up and they said they closed up the motor and it was still ticking so they opened it back up and replaced the lifters, OH and a new tire because apparently when the tech was taking it of the lift the swung the lift arm out and it popped the driverside front tire, also damaged the clear on the wheel when putting the new tire on... more on that later

Truck was still making the noise when I left the dealership, they told me the tappets needed to break in (never heard of that before) and to bring it back in a few thousand miles if it keeps on ticking.

Was washing it at 81,600 noticed some grease at the same tire that was replaced. CV boot was leaking maybe from the same arm swing that popped the tire brought it in 4/2 for the CV boot and ticking.

Thursday 4/18 I called to follow up and they're replacing the motor. Haven't heard back since. My guess is they either figured out what the problem was or they were tired of chasing a ghost.

But I can’t Stress enough That you are experiencing the absolute SAME lower end knock noise I am . Good luck . Please update thread with outcome or information that way if it’s something fixable or abnormal others can get help too! If u want videos of mine let me know I’ll dig some up

That's not piston slap.....they would not be replacing engine if it was that.

my 2013 1500 had this tick, after 100,000 miles, sounds like a manifold at first, but went away after it warmed up.
my local independent garage- said they call that "cold cylinder" syndrome, and not to worry about it.

I traded it in February at 265,000, never touched the engine, ran mopar standard 5-20 syn blend the whole time. Never ran full syn oil, but reading some of these posts, make you want to.

A coworker has a 09 big horn, 5.7, does the same thing, and he has never touched the engine, 100,000+ miles

Dummies should have replaced the Cam with the lifters lol!

Right? Figured that would be common among techs who should know a thing or two!

My truck used to piston slap when I ran Service Pro 5w20 (it only did it a time or two) I totally advise against running this oil in a Hemi unless you hate your engine.

With all that I've learned on this forum I think you're good as long as it goes away after warm up….

Do all 1500 hemis have cam/lifter problems? What about HD 5.7 and 6.4?

Your 2013 had 265K miles on it when you traded it in? What problems did you have in those 265K miles? No cam and lifter problems I hope!

Replaced outer rear axle bearings around 200,000.

Didn't touch the engine, but cam lobe 2 was worn, causing misfire when I traded it.

Was an awesome truck!

I did replace rear brakes. All highway miles.

My 2017 has 45k miles and until I read this thread I didn’t pay it any mind but mine makes the same noise but like others have said it goes away when warmed up.
