Okay, I have a 2023 Ram 1500 Classic with a trailer brake controller issue. It all started around January, been in and out of the dealership since then for the same issue. The issue is that it will not save trailer 1-4 on the radio, Brake Type is greyed out on this as well. Brake is at Lite duty brake type and will not change from lite duty to heavy duty brakes. The dealer has changed out the radio, BCM, Brake control module and checked out all the wiring from front to back. Tried different software from RAM. I just need this thing to work and work the right way. I need to find out if alpha odb will actually program the factory trailer brake module, I have the connector for the security gateway module. What are some thoughts about this?

Are you trying all this "testing" with a trailer connected? Maybe try deleting all the trailer brake stuff with Alfa, disconnect then reconnect the battery, drive it for a few miles, then re-install it all.
Stranger things have happened.

AlfaOBD does show a "Trailer Interface Module" selection for your year truck. Don't know what it will do, as it shows blank on my system.

Maybe send Alexi (AlfaOBD developer) a note and ask him.

All the "testing" is being done at the dealership. I am fixing to go up to the dealership and retrieve my paperwork as this is still an "open" star case and an "open" ticket. I wanted to know if Alfa would program the FACTORY brake controller before purchasing a OBDMX+ since the Vlinker FD will not work with Alfa or it is not compatible with the truck. I tried it and it said no connection on what I believe to be High speed CAN. It will access the BCM but accessing it and working with it are two different things.
I found something new with this problem. I found out that if you select the Treiler 1-4 on the radio even though the trailer is not being saved to the truck, mileage is being saved to the instrument panel cluster example trailer 1 has 233 miles on it . Trailer 2 23 miles on it, Trailer 3 40 miles. Trailer 4 0 miiles. What happens if I were to have an electric over Hydraulic. I could not use it.

As far as I know, there is no programming that is to be done on the controller itself ( as I see no settings for the controller). I am wondering if the "new" brake controller is actually a good one.

I am afraid that until you acquire a compatible bi-directional OBD dongle, such as the MX or equivalent, there is not much else we are going to be able to do to assist.

I am having the exact same issue. 2023 1500 Classic, 5.7L. With 5" Uconnect 3 radio. It appears to me that there may be a checkbox left unchecked that would 'enable' the settings in the instrument cluster and the radio but I don't have confirmation there thee is such a checkbox anywhere in the settings.

If you installed the TBC (hopefully correct OEM one, not aftermarket), there are like 5 settings (one adds the checkbox to select trailer type that need to be changed /added with AlfaOBD to enable everything in the EVIC and radio / head unit. Did it on mine and works flawlessly.
