I am going to get a set of projectors and want to add an HID ballast to them so I have brighter output.

Two questions:

Since I have the dual halogen lights, will I need two ballast kits if I want to put HID bulbs in the new projector housings in both the low and high beam? (Should I even do that?)

And two, can anyone recommend a good ballast kit for these trucks?

Thanks to anyone who can chime in.

You would need two hid kits as well as relay harness for each. You would want a kit for each if you want the same color.
Check with JJ at retroshop, one of the forum vendors. He sells Morimoto hid kits with all the goodies to make your lights work...

I messed up, the high beam is actually just a reflective housing so the low beam is the projector. My mistake. So I will only need one HID ballast kit. I don't know about dropping $150 on a kit though, that seems a bit much.

worth every penny. i've morimotos exclusively thru the years and never had an issue. you'll also morimoto canbus adaptors, which eliminate the need to run a relay harness.

They are worth it. Yes, there are some that are far less money but you get what you pay for. I look at it like this, I have a $43000 truck so I'm not gonna skimp on the extras I'm putting in it especially what allows me to see at night.
I know at times it doesn't seem worth it but for me, again for me, I want to put some quality with a name and history behind it in my vehicles.
I have come to going with many of the recommendations of the folks on the forum because they have experience and tons of knowledge with these products. In the end it my decision but I get a lot of ideas to open my mind.
Good luck with whichever way you go. Not trying to preach to you but giving you the background on the why...

Quality comes at a cost and his kits work with our trucks which are very picky with hid's

I'm running a retroshop hid kit in my heads and an ebay hid kit in my fogs.

Both installed the same time.

One kit cost $180 the other $35.

Both perform the same, look the same, no issues.

But....the quality of the retro kit does blow away the ebay kit.

Not trying to be a smart a@@, but why did you choose the retroshop for your headlights versus the $35 set?
Did you or were you not sure of what you would get versus a tried and true product, albeit at a more costly price?
Again, please don't take this the wrong way and I'm not trying to start anything.

No offense taken.

I ordered the 2 kits pretty close together. The reason I went with retro for the heads was exactly what you said and many others have said...retro is a legit, tried and true kit and reputable business on top of that. I just felt better knowing I had a reliable kit running as my main source of light for night driving.

Now the fogs are just for extra light Imo. I've installed many hid kits over the years (ddm,hidrus,ebay..) and surprisingly The only problem I've had on any cheaper kit I've installed was a bulb went out....and if I recall that was on a ddm kit actually.

Basically took the less pricey option on my fogs due to prior experience.

Thanks for the response and it makes perfect sense. I need to try one of the less expensive in the fogs to see their output.
When I had my Titan years ago I ran a sets from eBay for the highs, lows and fogs and you are correct, I had one bulb go out.
