Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted here!

My HID ballast went on me a week ago. The company I ordered from is no longer selling retail. They can get me a new ballast for $70, but it has no warranty.

I decided to go cheap and order some $30 amazon 55w ballasts. I installed it today, but the bulb got really hot, smelled like it was burning, and the round glass inside the bulb started to go yellow/brown. I've put the stock halogen back in for now, and I'm going to send back the cheap ballasts.

Does anyone know why the new ballast would be doing that to the bulb? I was using a 55w ballast before and it worked fine.

I'm not sure if I should keep trying different ballasts, or if I should replace the HID's with LED's.

If I had to guess..you kind of answered your own question. Didnt want to spend 70 with no warranty so you decided to go CHEAP. I think the mystery is solved. I dont think LED would be good, even the Diode ones dont throw light well as we have seen from @JB1 . I still have stock halogens but my research on this forum has led me to save these in my Amazon lists until I get around to doing the conversion. The second link is the fog LEDs.
Good luck!
