Hid vs Led

You need to turn on VehConfig 3 - High Intensity Discharge Head Lamps using AlfaOBD, or maybe AppCar could do it too.

You did the HID setting for LEDs in AlfaOBD? Or is it like I would think, set LED for LED lights and HID for HID? Sorry, little confused. Also for guys that have done it. Did you change out bulbs then change settings before you got a warning bulb out light right after the install of lights?

VehConfig 3 high intensity discharge actually turns pwm off which is the cause of flickering of hid/led's. So enabling hid you don't have to enable led for low beams

So turning that on gets you going for all bulb upgrades up front including fog lights as well?

Fogs, turn/park you'll still have to set for led

They will work....but

- They take a while to initially warmup, during which time they won't be very useful
- flash to pass will be anemic
- they won't last very long, being turned on and off all the time

Exactly!

The reco is HID for the low and LED for the high.

maybe your talking about the old time ones .My H I D lights turn on fast no problem

New kits probably take about 5 seconds or so to get warmed up

It's probably like 2 seconds to get bright but a good five before it starts to level out

I tried the ones from Headlight Revolution. They are plenty bright, but I did notice a little "splotchyness" (if that is a real word). Planning on trying some HIDs this weekend, but leaving the Brights with the LEDs. I have the Projector low-beams, so that may be a factor.

couldn't agree more, also I would also use splotchyness as far as the pattern goes. not noticeable when driving.

Still curious about how hids would compare, obviously brighter but worth it? put the leds in and hypothetically good for life of the tuck more or less.

HIDs are, for lack of a better term, night and day difference. It amazed me how much brighter they are. As far as worth it, I'd say yeah as long as you aren't paying $300 for a set. The ones I got were 1/6 the price but you need the deeper dust covers which adds to the cost. I used my Christmas money to get mine.

My Morimoto XB HID bulbs fit under the factory covers. I drilled the hole for the grommet directly behind the bulb for a little extra clearance and they fit without a problem.
