I just purchased a 2019 1500 Bighorn with the V6 engine. It appears the class 3 hitch is built into the rear bumper. This doesn't allow for a drop hitch. Just a ball in the bumper? What the heck were they thinking???

Well, I'm guessing that you didn't get the tow package? The one with the receiver under the rear bumper? You can always add a receiver. Don't forget to add a connector for your trailer lights and brake controller.

The sticker lists a class three hitch and has the traditional 4 and 7 pin plug that's what is puzzling..

My 2013 was like that, both the 4 & 7 pin wire plug, just the hole in the bumper for a ball. From looking underneath it appears to built strong enough, but as others have said, what were they thinking. Curt mfg. offers two model hitches, I believe class 3 and 4, which is the full frame mount. I went with the class 4 which I know is overkill in my case, but feel better knowing that I have a full frame mounted hitch.

I thought the hole in the bumper was only for a bolt mounting to the OEM hitch ! IMO I would not tow off a bumper anyway! It was done in the 70s and alot of bumpers were ripped off :O, I also thought the OEM hitch looked like this and the bolt went in the top of the hitch

I think the better question is what were you thinking when you bought it? How could you not notice it didn’t have something you wanted?
