I'm sure this will be a beat up thread but I need some help with programming the homelink garage door opener. I'll start saying this is my 6th ram and I've never had an issue programming any of my previous trucks including my most recent 18 sport. I've read the manual and watched the YouTube videos. No matter what I do I can't get it programed. My garage door opener is a rolling code type from what I can tell from the directions (it has the learn button) I hit the learn button and return to the truck and proceed to press and hold the homelink button twice for 2 seconds each time. No matter how many times I try this, it won't program. Any help with this??

Are you going back to your opener and pressing learn the second time and then entering your truck and pressing and holding the corresponding button you want to program twice, for 2 seconds each time?

I was a little impatient when I tried to program, I watched the video and successfully completed the non-rolling portion. After it failed to work, I watched more of the video and had that “duh” moment and got it working.

Make sure you are using the large remote that clips to your visor to teach your Homelink. The key chain remotes won't usually work.

Im having the same issue...I was able to program 1 door after about 12 tries but the second door just wont program at all. They are both Chamberlain openers and less than 5 years old. I did read something in another forum about " Programming a Canadian garage door ". They say there is a difference between regular programming and Canadian programming, but neither worked for me...

Your post got me inspired to try again ... and this time it worked ! Here is what i did...

1) Hold your handheld door opener within a few inches of the homelink button you want to program.
2) Hold down both the opener button as well as the Homelink button you want to program.
** This is where it got different, i held both buttons down for probably more than 30 seconds. The Homelink light went from a very fast flashing to a very slow and deliberate blink on\off.**
3) Go to the garage door opener and press and release the LEARN button on the back of the opener motor
4) Return to the truck and cycle (press) on/off the Homelink button you want to program.

Mine worked by the 3rd push ( on 2 sec / off 2 sec ) and the door opened / closed after that without issue.

I watched a video online that explained the process as 1st programming the Homelink button to match the button on your remote THEN 2nd programming the Homelink button to your garage opener. All of the other videos i watched made it seem like the process was one or the other, you either used the remote to program Homelink or use the Learn to do it...Not both.

Anyway hope this helps you out...

This may actually be my problem. From the manual and the video online it didn't really say to do both procedures so after I tried both procedures seperately i figured something wasn't right. I'll have to try again today but do both procedures like you had mentioned. I will report back!

Got mine working too. I was holding the learn button too long on the opener.

Having 3 vehicles and having been through several different GDOs over the years I can tell you programming these things is equal parts patience, direction reading, guessing and luck. Numerous times I've gotten things to work by doing differently than what the directions say. Pushing the "learn" button twice when the directions say once is a common one. I'll often read/watch directions for slightly different year vehicles and/or openers and try some of those things.

I don't know if manufacturers (cars and GDOs) just like to torture us or really don't know how to make their products work but the whole Homelink thing is kind of a nightmare.

I went through all of the frustrations described above. Then I did as the manual suggests and replaced the garage door remote battery, Bingo! Connected!
