Discovered the front edge of my hood is starting to corrode. I will bring it in for warranty in a few months and they will probably replace the hood. The color is flame red. My question is does the body shop need the truck or do they just order the hood get it painted and then I can bring it in for them to bolt on? I'd rather not have them be blending paint on to other panels.

Having been down this road with almost new vehicles in the past, first you've got to have them look at it and make sure they'll cover it. It doesn't always go smoothly and I can almost guarantee they're not going to replace the hood.

I was with Chrysler for twelve years in the dealership world. Want to know how many corrosion claims I saw successfully placed by the customer? I’ll give you a hint: it’s less than one.

That's really sad.

It’s the truth. I always saw Chrysler weasel out of it. Claimed this fine print or another. Never once saw a successful claim. Not saying they don’t exist, only my experience.

If the vehicle is within a year old and 12k miles, I've seen dealerships get it covered without much hassle provided it's not caused by an impact, stone chip, etc.

I've gotten Ford and Nissan to fix corrosion issues w/in 3yrs/36k miles, but only after I offered to pay a portion.

The aluminum hood started to bubble on the leading edge on our 2013 Dodge Grand caravan pretty early in life, but I never pursued it.

Have a 2014 Grand Caravan bought new in Jan 2014 and they replaced the hood for the same thing in Nov. 2018. Didn't have to fight it at all.

We had the hood refinished on our Pacifica. There is a TSB out there for aluminum hood corrosion...a copy is attached.

Play nice, mention there may be a TSB, and give them a number (TSB 31-001-18); and you shouldn't have an issue.

What year is your Pacifica? They replace the hood or fix it?

They were able to fix it. Our Pacifica is a 2018, we bought it used on Dec 31, 2019 with 20k miles from a Chrysler dealer in Toledo Ohio. The hood was repainted in April 2020 by a different Chrysler dealer (Columbus Ohio) - just closer to home.

I also have corrosion bubbling the paint on the leading edge of my hood. I'm the original owner of my 2019 Ram Classic, have had it less than two years, and it has just under 24,000 miles. It's been in California or Arizona the whole time, and never in snow. It's never been in an accident, never had paint work, and the paint isn't chipped. I submitted a claim to my dealer two weeks ago, and as of a week ago they hadn't heard from FCA yet. I'll post what the outcome is.

Bought my 2016 2.5 years ago with 5700 miles, noticed a very small bubble on the hood, paint cracked this past winter so i knew i needed to get to the dealer.
Went friday 11-5 and my corrosion warranty expired 2 days prior! They called me back and said not a problem they covered it.
My truck is bright white, do they have to blend the fenders? I believe they are repairing the hood by sanding down and adding some special primer. Hope this doesn't turn into a disaster.

Unless it's a sport hood, the skin is aluminum, an epoxy type primer should be used. The problem with aluminum is the corrosion can leach through the metal

The sport hood skins are steel, one would think a sport hood would be the lighter material of the two. The sport hood has the two non-functional hood scoops unless you add the Mopar CAI kit for it.

That's an amazing dealership if they fixed this free of charge for you on a ~6yr/old truck. That's awesome! I would imagine it's coming out of the dealership's pocket and not Ram.. Or whoever owns it these days.

Like I say, in the Buffalo NY area, It was a hassle for me on a 2-3yr/old vehicle.

Called dealer up a couple times and they said just drop off and they will send to auto body guy, i say don't you need to make sure they can do it right away!? They tell me this is how they do it.
So i let 8 months go by lol a rock hit hood and windshield cracks, well lets get that hood fixed now!
I call and they say yeah its still covered, i drop it off and guess what the body shop is on vacation! I dont get mad, wait a week and drop off again, 4 days later my hood is repaired/painted and a damn good job! I was skeptical it was gonna come back looking alright.
