I’m talking about the backside of the wheels. And I did it while everything was wet.

The front side of the wheels I only cleaned with a soft cloth. And polished.

Have you tried a power washing? At more then 3000psi and a tight nozzle fitting you can really get at the dirt even in tightest spots. Some solvent to pretreat can't hurt.

Thanks! I have a Dewalt 3750 pressure washer. Will give it a try. Someone else mentioned Spray 9. I have some of that. I also ordered a gallon of wheel cleaner (non acid).

I used a cordless drill with a couple of wire brush attachments to get into those recessed areas at the back side. I also sprayed brake cleaner in there before.

I’ve got two wheels very clean and the front side polished

How much would a set of these wheels fetch? I know what they cost new.
Last set of the factory Sport wheels i bought, which are quite a step up from those, and they had new tires on them. They were take-offs off a brand new truck,i paid $400 Canuck for them, then sold the Wranglers off them for $400.
I'd be surprised if you get anymore then $300 out of them. What they cost new doesn't really apply,as they aren't a rim that's in high demand

I actually looked around online and found a few of them for sale. People were asking $200 and up for each wheel. And most of them don’t look like they even cleaned up the front side.

I’m going to try to sell them locally on Facebook marketplace or CL. If I get $300-$500 for the set, I’ll be happy with that. I’m goig continue to clean up the two remaining wheels and polish the front sides.

I did the second wheel in about an hour. I may try pressure washing the back of the other two wheels, after pre-treating it.

I think 1500 is on to something there, it seems to work fine on Chinese SKS rifles .

Another thought , have you tried brake clean? ( not in the dishwasher).

I ended up getting 350$ for mine, still had tires on them with good tread, forget the brand.
They were on the truck when I bought them.

I met the guy at a parking lot to deliver, lost my grip on one while unloading, it spun and gouged the outside of the fender- on the corner above the brake light.
Then when I went to leave already mad from gouging the paint, my truck wouldn’t start, ended up needing a new battery so the cash wasn’t in my pocket for long.

Now I wish I had just kept them, put a set of “true” snow tires on them, don’t need them often in VA but I would use them to keep the salt off my current wheels and if I had found some the same height as my 35”’s I could of used as a emergency spare.

Yes. I had a little bit left. I sprayed it into that recessed area at the back side of the wheels. And while it was wet, I got in there with a fine wire brush attachment to a cordless drill. Got a lot of that area cleaned up better.

Unfortunately, I need to buy another eight cans at Walmart. I went through a lot of it doing the front end, cleaning and replacement. And cleaning the rotors, brake calipers and brackets. Whenever I do automotive work, I seem to go through a lot of of this.

Are you saying that the dishwasher removed the cosmoline from your SKS? Or just general cleaning? ;)

I have heard rumors a while back that some fellow wanted to clean the cosmoline off a couple be bought.
I do know for a fact that some newbie put the action /barrel from a MI in the dishwasher to degrease it.
I was told it cleaned it great, but flashed a nice red patina as soon as it cooled off.
He was looking for some one to reblue it back when I had the shop.
I believe that beer may have involved. I seen pictures, it was a mess.
I don't know if it ever got redone.
Any I sold , I included all the good stuff free of charge, I also keep cheap rubber gloves on the table, they where free as well. ;):shooter:

I watch Rainman Ray's auto repair?? he said he has Bk clean on his site, up to barrel size, I have no clue what a barrel of brake clean may cost,
He is in your part of the country.
I use to pay 3.oo, now its more like 6.oo or more. I used mainly working on guns.

A couple times a year I pull my wheels for a deep clean/detail. First thing i use is a fallout/ iron remover. Spray it on, agitate, let dwell, rinse. I never use anything more aggressive than a nylon bristle brush.
