How do I manually open my 2024 Ram tailgate?

Can’t. The tailgate handle hole for the electric handle is much larger than the tailgate handle hole for the manual release handle.

Being as the width & height of the Tailgate are very close to the same.

As i drove around today, i wondered what the thickness is ??

I will just have to ask someone with one of the Newer Tailgates, if i could measure it.

They likely would look at me strangely & move between me & their Ram.
It might be easier to walk into the Dodge Showroom & ask them.
I might have to comb my Beard first

They’re the same. I put a new electric release tailgate on my 2017. The only difference is, you have to cut the passenger side hinge off and reuse the old hinge on the new tailgate (the male and socket are reversed between the two).

After hours of trying I found that the 2024 RAM DOES in fact have a manual lever on the back side of the actuator that you can slide to release the latch. Sorry I don't have a PIC, as I already sold the gate to get this V-Gate that fits a 2024 But it is there. https://www.superiortailgatesusa.com/ It's hard to reach this small lever inside the access panelreaching back behing the actuator, but it does work. One side pushes up, the other side pushes down I only found this out after I removed the latch strikers from the inside of the tailgate to get it open as I couldn't' get the actuators to work using 12v jumper. This was also a bi47*tch but it can be done with a T40 torx extension from inside the gate...... (long story I put a 2024 take off onto a 2015 truck) No wiring for the electric latch.

Most automotive engineers do not care about a vehicle that doesn't function in the way it was designed. And they don't even think about maintenance. I had to unbolt the engine from the mounts and raise the engine/transmission to replace a starter on a previous vehicle. On another car I had to lift all of the air conditioning components to replace the distributor cap. "What do you mean you want to maintain it yourself? We have trained mechanics to do that!"

Could a person fit an older tailgate with manual release into a newer tailgates place ?

Or maybe just switch tailgate handles ??

it looks like a 2018 & a 2024 Ram Tailgate, are the same width & height
60" wide
21.4" tall

Dodge changed the pivot points on the 2024 tailgate 2500, so they are different than the 2019-2023, same with the GEN4 2018 and older. The older gates won't fit a 2024.

If you want a mechanical tailgate for your 2024 I've found a place that is making V-Gates (5th wheel/gooseneck) for 2024 RAMS with the new pivot points. No this is NOT a marketing pitch, just that I looked for days trying to find mine. If interested check him out. https://www.superiortailgatesusa.com/ It's a nice aluminum gate, and he makes them for any year/make truck from what I understand.

I’m not sure if this got posted yet for a 2024 with an electronic tailgate, but if you shut it with power disconnected the easiest way to reconnect the plugs for both power and video feed is to drop the spare tire. The “inside” of that plastic plate is completely accessible to you with the spare tire on the ground. I hope this helps anyone in the future.

This is an older thread, but I’m not sure of answer to my issue. 25 Ram 1500 Longhorn.

Away from home, left tailgate down for a couple of days. Just because I was using it as a table!
Went to close it using button on fob, side of bed( mines a Longhorn) button inside, all gave 4 beeps which is usually temp unavailable. Closed by hand, latched and locked, NOW IT WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL!
Tried fob, button inside, pushing in handle etc etc. just…….beeps and stays up.
I have a full tri fold tonneau cover and that is latch closed. I need to get in to load luggage! What on earth do I do?
As all the posters say, no key, no manual override if you can’t get to inside of gate.
Help! Thanks in advance.

Perhaps I can feed a coat hanger down tonneau cover to open that up to get to tailgate from inside.

Did you try pushing in on the tailgate, lifting the handle while maintaining pressure, then lowering it?

I certainly did! Nothing.
I’m not the type to just shout help, straight away. I’ve tried all the suggestions for lifting pulling etc etc. it is STUCK . Solid.
I did however manage to get a bent coat hanger on the latch of my tonneau cover so that is open yeah!
Now I can load my stuff, go home and report to dealer. They are pretty good. Told me to call in while passing. I don’t wanna start messing myself now it’s not such a priority in case I void warranty. Truck was bought new Feb 25.

Probably one of the new Atlantis architecture glitches, then. The new Charger has the same problem with the trunk, can't open it with the fob, the button inside the passenger compartment, etc.
