How does mopar.com know the mileage on my new Ram 1500 Gen 5 when i log into the website?

How is this being communicated to mopar.com? via Wifi? some other way?

Can this communication be turned off?

thanks

All new vehicles communicate with the mother ship. They use a cell phone modem of some sort to do this.

I am not sure which computer in the Ram does this, but if it is unplugged from power should stop it. You will lose over the air updates if you do this.

You may also have a tracker on your ODB port, that does the same thing.

If you have a cell phone you are being tracked more then what your truck is tracking you.

The best way not to be tracked is get rid of your cell phone, go back to a 1990's vehicle or before.

The "Telematics* box. It does gps, wifi AND connects via your local cellphone tower.

If it's a 2024 or earlier you can remove the Telematics box and take turn it off in the network with AlfaOBD,

But you'll probably lose the other things it does too. Mostly in Uconnect, like GPS, Bluetooth, 911 calling. I've never done it, but I remember a thread on the Durango forum where some guys did it.

Edit: I just logged on with a PC, so I can see the things I couldn't on my phone. You have a 2026, so turning that off would be significantly harder. You'd need to want it pretty bad $$$ to accomplish it on a 2025+.

This all depends on where Stellantis has stashed the Sierra Wireless card for the 2026 1500s.

The card is installed in the radio of the 4th-gen trucks for 2021. Earlier years have had the card installed in a couple of other locations, AFAIK.

Instructions are circulating on how to remove the Wireless card from the Uconnect 8.4 radio, and the process appears to be relatively easy. I was planning to remove mine when the monthly FCA reports stopped.
IIRC, they stopped collecting my data about 3 years after the purchase date.

Others have replaced/upgraded the radio, and that fixes big brother collecting your data through the truck, provided that's where the card is installed.

I called Ram Connect Support at 800-777-3600 and explicitly requested to "cancel for privacy reasons".
I never set up an account to begin with so gave them the VIN number. It had a 90 day free trial that I never activated.
I got a confirmation email from Ram Connect confirming.
This is supposed to trigger a deactivation of the cellular modem's data services.
Time will tell.....

I posted about this “information sharing” and “software updates” in another thread and got slammed as being wrong about it.

NEENER NEENER BOO BOO!

(Yes, Stellantis is deeply into where you go, how fast you go there, and all sorts of other info about you that you probably don’t care for them to know. There is sufficient info in many cases for them to disallow some warranty claims. Don’t believe..? Wait until they deny your warranty because your travel-habits exceed “normal service” …which carries higher service/oil/filter/etc changes than you’ve been performing.)

Yep. They even know the air pressure in your tires, or if you are low on gas!

The phone is easily solved - there are commercially available Faraday Cage pouches. The truck, I doubt has an easy resolution - they want to know!

Time's gonna tell you that it didn't do anything, other than cancel your subscription :Big Laugh:

Does Stellantis have your email address?

If they do, create a DTC or check engine light, and see if they send you an email.

I may have been experimenting with AlfaOBD and coincidentally  there may have been the occasional Powertrain fault or some such thing.

I received an email instantly, asking if I wanted to make a service appointment.

I don't know how smart they are. I just logged into my Mopar and they're about 11k miles off on my truck. And I just got an oil change a few weeks back too so the dealer knows my mileage.

If you think this is bad, just wait; Ford just filed some troubling patents related to biometrics in new vehicles that others will probably want to copy. Specifically mentioned is it could not let the vehicle shift into drive if you are "unfit" to be driving a vehicle.

The vehicle will also send off your biometrics to a database that law enforcement agencies can subscribe to. (So it can "tattle" on your location, if nothing else.) This sounds good for catching bad guys, but I can totally see it being abused.

EDIT: For clarification, by biometrics, I mean mainly facial recognition related items. Retinal scan, "emotion sensing", drunk driving detection (they claim 90% accuracy), and things like that. Here is one article talking about it.

They use the satellite antenna on the top of your truck, the same way they do updates.

Vehicles are only half the problem. My electronic roommate is Alexa. She reports on my activities daily.

Just wait till you get a women/ Wife if not already ,then you have 2 at you.
I miss my old flip phone, other then the crap pictures.
I checked out price of full extension cabinet slides I am doing for the kitchen at the local hardware,
and now Facebook had scads of ads for slides, which would be fine if the buggers would come and install them.
My knees don’t like the job.
My gps has not been updated on my ‘14 since it was new, so they may not know what I am doing,
I don’t sometimes myself.
