How does the oil life feature work?

On my EVIC there is the oil life remaining function...I have driven 1k miles since the last oil change and my life meter shows 91% remaining. Does this thing work based on solely mileage or does it somehow monitor the quality of the oil?

A bunch of parameters are used to calculate it, such as cold starts, ambient temp, mileage, rpms, engine load, and so on.

On mine it has completely been a mileage thing. But i have a 2011 not a 2013

My 2013 work truck seems to be just milage. Every 100 miles was 1 percent of the life. Still the same after first oil change.

Can't just be milage though because as we all know the miles put on these trucks are not the same.

The reason i say mine is strictly mileage is its every 3500 miles it comes on.....even if i just had the oil changed the light will come on at that interval

i just track mileage. I don't go by the truck.

Mine has yet to go off so I wouldn't know but I have driven less then 2K miles in the 8 months I've owned it.

I still don't really get it either. my 2013 has around 2600 miles and it's about 65% left...I've towed my first trailer about 80 miles round trip, and I've also hot rodded around on the back roads for a couple tanks of gas as well. lol.

i think I'll change it for the first time at around 5000 miles. I will then switch to Redline synthetic, and change it every 10k miles.
