Hey guys,

Asking about he H/U, regarding how integrated it is in the new rams.

Can a guy simply yank it out and install another head unit without interfering with the truck in any way? Does the factory alarm / remote start run through it for any reason? Any bypasses need run?

I have reason to believe it doesn't since other guys have seemingly swapped theirs out and haven't mentioned anything of the sort.

I realize Id loose Uconnect and whatnot, but whatever all the new decks have phone processing and Bluetooth / handsfree and whatnot anyways. As long as loosing Uconnect doesn't hinder the operation of the truck in anyway I think I might be up for a radio swap.

I have a 730N head unit by the way (nav, HDD and dvd)

Thanks,

for starters what are you trying to do with a new radio? if its better sound then just simply add an amp. speakers, and maybe a processor.

in 2011 yes you can change the radio fairly easy. however you will need adapters to make any radio run correctly.

I've seen a lot of head units swapped out on early 4th Gen trucks. My questions is are there any aftermarket head unites that utilize the buttons on the steering wheel for volume and skip features?

Ideally its just for sound (and better looks from an aftermarket deck).

Im aware of adapters and whatnot IF I were to retain the stock deck. However, Id prefer to build my OWN system.

Im more or less asking if removing the stock deck interferes with ANY controls of the truck (security, alarms, remote start, keyless entry) or if Dodge wasn't dumb enough to incorporate all that into the stereo like all the other manufacturers are doing. Id add steering wheel controls to any deck Id be adding as well.
