My 2014 Durango with 5.7 needed a new one at about 70K.. It was done under my extended warranty. Acording to my sources at FCA the early pumps were manuffactured without a weep hole that is found on most water pumps and can cause heat buildup and early failure. Mine had no noticable leaks just a smell of hot collant after shutting down in the garage. My advice, if it's suspect repalce it. It beats getting stranded.

I made it 52 miles past the original equipment warranty on my '84 D350 dually. My wife was stranded 250 miles from home.

funny, today they put my motor back in with the water pump that had 25k miles on it. Now the pump is leaking at the pulley. Here comes another new one.

We have a 2014 Durango that is one it’s third water pump. When the first one failed you couldn’t find an OEM water pump anywhere. That told me there a a real problem with the stock pumps. Only have 96k miles on it now. None of the pumps leaked but they really made a racket.

I don't know if the dealer replaced mine when they replaced the cam and lifters at around 92,000 miles, but if not, mine has almost 148,000 on it now and no issues at all.

Replaced my waterpump under warranty at 142k kms, about 88k miles. It's a work truck - property maintenance, so about 20-40 start/stops a day doesn't help with part reliability.

On my fifth water pump now, 2005, 5.7, with 210000km

Must be something about the Canadian winters that blows 'em up in February, and I'm only in Toronto, so it's not that cold. But to be honest one of the water pumps wasn't leaking, just sounded like a bearing was about to go so I replaced it while doing an electric cooling fan swap.

First new pump was in 2010, last new pump was in 2018.

I replaced mine last weekend at 113,000 miles on my 2015 1500 Hemi. I started smelling coolant at least a year ago but I could never find coolant on the ground and the level in the resovior never went down noticeably. That is until my last oil change when the resovior was empty and I saw coolant stains on the front of the block.

I went with a Gates pump which may be who Mopar buys from. It saved me $100 or so compared to the Mopar-branded and was indistinguishable from the one I took off. I found the best price (3 gallons undiluted came to $67 after tax and shipping) on Mopar 150k mile OAT coolant at truckID.com.

Good luck!

A couple months back I started noticing a small coolant leak in my driveway. It actually looked to be coming from the thermostat, but even though my truck only had 90K miles on her, she's still a 10 yr old truck so i just went ahead and replaced both the thermostat and waterpump at the same time. Neither had failed, but just wanted that peace of mind.

I have all diesels and have only changed one water pump. It wasn't my oldest one but the '07. I had a whirring sound and used my stethoscope to find the noise. Yep it was making noise. A bit harder to find on a noisy diesel. But while there I changed the tensioner and idler and belt. Its recommended on both the 5.9 and 6.7. I only use Evans waterless coolant

Only truck I don't touch is my wife's. She bought it straight out and until the warranty dies, she will go to the stealership. I couldn't even tell you how many miles since her last oil change. It's her baby and she has guns!!

Out of curiosity, how much of a pita is it to change out? I've worked on my old 87 mustang water pump a couple of times and it was easy, so assuming this is similar, it should be just as easy? Aside from being in a huge truck.
