How often do I need to change the oil? I read conflicting advise. Anywhere from 7,500 to 15,000 miles. It is a 2018 ram 2500. Thank you. I do tow quite a bit.

I got a deal from my dealer for 4 oil changes for about $150. Whenever they change it, they write 5,000 miles on the sticker. I'm not sure if that's accurate or not - I doubt it is.

The 4 oil changes are only good to be used in 2 years, and the last oil change I had less than 2,000 miles on it. I deploy a lot and haven't been putting many miles on my truck.

The 2017 diesel supplement that comes with the owners manual says 10K. The manual says 10K for 1500 models and 8K for 2500/3500 models. However, it does not state if this is for a CTD or not.

Since the supplement is diesel specific I'd go with that interval. My CTD has a full DPF/EGR delete so I change at 8K miles.

You can download the diesel specific supplement for your truck here:

From your diesel supplement in the 2500+ section (CTD) reTk3sd.jpg
When the oil change message says to, 15,000 miles, 6 months, or 500 hours...WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.

Bryan: Just my simple opinion.

If my idle hours are decently low? Look towards the 8K mile mark for my OCI.

If I acquire a decent amount of idle hours?
I look at 6-7K mile OCI.

If I ever Have to idle more then 1-5 min - I use my high idle @ 1200 rpms (to keep the 6.7L engine temp up as close to normal operating temp as possible). Just trying to avoid any amount of fuel dilution.

I do use a high quality synthetic along with a very high quality synthetic media filter - so I feel I have a good buffer to rely on if I over shoot my OCI - also a robust enough oil to handle a small amount of fuel dilution & Still have a good amount of lubrication properties.

SyN Disclaimer: Notice I didn't recommended you doing this I only shared my own thoughts!

You also can install a Fumoto drain valve in place of your OEM drain plug & pull a sample after 7K miles & send off for a UOA - just to get a idea of the condition of your oil & a another idea of how much further to push your OCI - if you pay a little extra for a TBN.

Your personal driving habits/style will dictate a lot to your OCI.
The simple guideline book has no idea how soft or hard or abusive you are on going to be on your 6.7L.
