Need help please my UAQ radio shows the speed limit in MPH but reads your speed limit in kilometers and shows your distance for turns etc in kilometers as well. Distance is set to US but if I try to select "Custom" it unchecks itself and if I go under custom under the distance settings menu on the radio kilometers is selected but when I check miles it unchecks itself too. 2017 Ram 2500 6.7 Tradesman with a 2018 UAQ 8.4

I also solved nearly all of my problems. It is all about programming. As some of you already stated, taking a unit out of another car can make some problems. While the old Harman unit was able to regenerate from a factory reset getting all the information it needs out of the BCM, the Panasonic unit is not that clever... So you have to program all your desired (and of course supported) menu setting BEFORE installing the unit to the car. At least if you own a 2013 RAM, as I do. The "Units" settings not working are not supported by the 2013 RAM. The BCM does not have the ability to store so much information, it does only accept "Metric" or "US". Not "Custom, UK, mph, bar, kpa"... etc.). There is just 1 bit reserved for the unit information...

So for an used Panasonic you might need, depending on you MY, some kind of pre-configuration process to let the radio match the configuration list of your car. Pretty annoying...

I see a IR22.5 sticker which makes me think it has application version 22.5

It's definitely one of the newer ones with 22.5 on it. Unlock code is required anytime it's transferred to another vehicle.

Send me a message with your phone number and I will try to call you later this evening when I get back from Houston Space Center tour. I wonder if it was installed temporarily in my factory UAS 18 Laramie if it would reset properly to USA units. I have a UAQ in they now with v19.9 that's working well.

Maybe one of the other guys has some thoughts on this...

I bought the radio from 4th gen Ram Electronics on Facebook he said that it was a new radio. I assume since I could not tell it had been used and I did not have to enter an unlock code that it was brand new somehow. It looked like no one had ever even mounted it. It looked like no screws ever passed through the holes in the frame where you mount it on the truck.

I haven’t looked into it much, but I do have a theory about what is happening.

I do know that on the older radios, when you changed a setting, that information was sent out on the bus to various other modules. However, there doesn’t appear to be any message coming from the BCM or anything else to relay this info like this is with other stuff. That makes me think that every module retained its own local copy of these settings.

What I think may be happening now is that they moved these to the system that’s used for most everything else. When the radio sends out that something was changed, the BCM updates its stored value. But, then instead of the radio retaining what it had sent, it (along with other modules)looks to retrieve the centrally-stored value in the BCM going forward. If the BCM doesn’t send that info, it won’t update.

I believe what the radio needs is to see a new-for-18 message telling it what the units should be.

I have been on the lookout for a good deal on a RAM UAQ or UAS myself. Once I find one, I’ll see if I can get done time alone with the bus on an 18 and see if I can reverse engineer the messages.

Spoke with Austen by phone earlier. He may be able to temporarily install the 18 UAQ in his dad's 18 ram tradesman to see if it resets fully to USA units vs sending to me to install in mine. We'll see what happens when he posts an update.

i had one do the same thing.i'm thinking i used the reset to factory default setting in the main menu and it corrected back to mph.it was a uaq also didn't think it would do anything but reset the radio function settings eq etc but it reset the nav to.if that didn't work unhook the battery and touch the cables together let set for 10 min.that is the latest part number for a ram uaq and they are on back order or were as of a week or so ago canceled a order from all mopar parts as they didn't have a eta and said they had several on order.

Just tried resetting to defaults on the radio and it did not work either unfortunately. I did however turn on "Speed unit CSM" with Alpha OBD earlier today and it is now under the settings on the radio but has km/h checked and when I check MPH it unchecks that and "re-checks km/h. I'm lost honestly. Trying to do everything I can to fix the issue without having to remove the radio again. I also changed the language then back to English and still no fix.

sorry that didn't work.the only way i would think for sure to rule out the radio itself would be test in a truck that came factory with uaq.

does anyone know what the purple wire does? is it just the 911 assist? i have a radio from a jeep and the purple cable doesnt fit

I called my dealer and gave them the radio serial number and they ask for the VIN for the radio and I told them it's only been in my truck so they ask for my trucks vin and I gave it to them then they gave me an unlock code. I just want to make sure that it would be right before I take it out and put it in my Dad's 2018 Tradesman. My truck came with the 5" touchscreen, the 5" uconnect radios don't have unlock codes like the 8.4s do they?
