Can u do the hand starter switch that you attach to the starter solenoid and just crank it manually? I would pull the plugs at a minimum.

Pedal to the floor and crank the engine. Fuel gets cut off doing this way.
This what you should be doing after an oil changes to finish filling the filter.

:D here's a demonstration of faith vs. rigor.. you can either floor it and have faith that fuel will get cut off because it's programmed to work that way or you can remove the fuse and eliminate any variables.

I'm a fuse puller, it's not difficult and I don't trust anything on faith.

meh - if you change shortly after use (just after engine cools), there's enough residual oil on the surfaces to prevent startup wear. I've never heard of an engine that suffered inordinate wear from not prelubing post-oil change. Just one less thing to have to remember.

For an engine that's sat for a while, or rebuilt, absolutely pre-lube. We always pre-lubed engines for test run in standby generator service so we weren't dry-starting them for bi-monthly exercise required by building codes.

Addendum - I do fill oil filters before installing, though. If filter is mounted horizontal or vertical down, I fill it, then dump out oil prior to installing. This wets the filtration media, allowing oil to pass quicker after canister is pumped full.
i.e. - it minimizes dry start run time.

Hi, Just finished installing rebuilt 5.7 in 2012 1500. I want to spin engine with starter to see oil pressure before running engine. Removed fuel pump fuse and engine won’t spin. What’s the best way to spin engine without starting? Thanks.
In the old days we'd remove the coil wire to the distributor cap. Today's onboard computers are monitoring everything on the engine. Might be easier to remove the plug wires... or maybe the feed to the coil pack if there's one

Well, since they effectively eliminated the distributer, you can't do old school which was to put a long slotted rod down to the oil pump and use a drill to pump up and circulate the oil around the engine. good slathering of Lithium grease on moving parts before assembly will ease in the parts till oil is moving at pressure. Afraid I don't know how the newer engines are even pumping oil w/out dist. so my age is showing......good luck.
