I've got a silly question and hoping someone has an answer. Has anyone ever used one of those hydro shield pre-filters that are supposed to keep water from getting into the intake? I know that the filter obviously can't be submerged but wondering if they do as advertised because I'm building a custom cold air intake with my son because he is bored and wanted to do something to my truck and I had some stuff I had bought for an intake I was going to build for my old eclipse lying around so I figured why not. We trimmed the stock box mounting piece and mocked up our own box with cardboard and ran it all the way down the fender liner creating a "seal" to the fender and front of the truck. I know this isn't going to add anything but sound but seeing as his favorite movies are the first couple of Fast & Furious movies he is all for it. We transferred the cardboard template to some plastic then used aluminum pieces to hook it up and mount it. They only thing I need to get is the filter and I have a 4" aluminum tube coming and then it will be ready to install but I'm worried about water splashing up onto the filter. I don't do much with the truck because it's my work vehicle but occasionally I splash some water up into the bay on a jobsite.Screenshot_20190812-221109.png 20190721_122700_HDR.jpg 20190721_122708.jpg 20190721_122740_HDR.jpg 20190728_122341_HDR.jpg

I used one on my lancer. My cold air intake was located deep down in the fender, behind the left fog light and caused problems when driving through torrential rain. Threw a hydro shield / pre filter sleeve on it and never had a problem after that. On a truck, that high up, I personally wouldn't put too much thought into it. Although it is a cheap piece of mind.
