I feel like I've lost the point of the discussion if this all hinges on the assumption anyone thinks wind is consistent at such a granular level as day to day, temperature independent, or that wind is going to be the only source of generation at any point.
The point of the discussion i'm referring to,is wind generated power on days when the power grid is setting usage records, nowhere did anybody but you mention the usage over a monthly or quarterly period.
I've been trying to get it across to you, that winds at -30 or colder aren't there in sufficient numbers to spin a wind turbine, and those are the days you need them spinning. Nobody cares if their furnace isn't functioning when it's 60F ,but you sure as hell need that furnace to function at -30 and colder

I read an interesting article a few months back on alternative media on wind farms.

From memory, some guy from Denmark or Norway, decided to test the material they make the blades from and found when they start to break down in a few years they release "nasty fibers" into the air and those fibers are a carcinogen. Furthermore they found those fibers as carcinogenic as Asbestos.

I take everything I read in all forms of media with a grain of salt so you can find the information and decide for yourself.

Glad I don't live near one.

Do you compare that to living downwind of a coal-fired, acid-rain / gamma-ray-spewing plant? With the possible exception of hydroelectric and solar…most forms of electricity-production has environmental / health impact issues.

No because I don't live near a coal fired electric plant either. I believe Alberta has either closed for converted all ours to Natural Gas as of early this year.

This has also created another issue where we now rely a lot on Solar and Wind.

We only would get warnings we are maxing out the grid in extreme cold now we get warnings quit often even on warm days if the wind isn't blowing and the sun isn't shining.

Not a big deal in the summer but I would kind of like to be able to have power in -4F and colder weather.

What a load of B.S. / Propaganda. Texas …As You YourSelf Noted….is a RED STATE. Doh.
Maybe you can't understand it, Texas IS red, but the inner cities, Austin, Houston, Dallas in particular are BLUE. DUH.

When TX wanted to impliment back up systems for the grid, the inner city blue politicians threw a hissy-fit and stopped fossil fuel back up systems from being installed. They WANTED the grid to fail at some time. The media did their very best to lay it at the feet of the governor, they stoked up a lot of anger, but it all failed misberely for them. Dig down, do some research, educate yourself.

What is not understood apparently is that the cities you just mentioned did NOT prevent any expansion of electrical grid, fossil-fuel or otherwise.
Austin has it’s own, city-owned electric-power plants and excess capacity is sold to outlying areas. No effort to prevent expansion by Austin.
Houston Power and Light participates with Austin in the nuclear power plant at Bay City and meets it’s own needs as well.
Texas does not participate in the National Grid…. it has it’s own grid regulated by ERCOT who, ironically, is/was managed by Out Of State executives who DO NOT LIVE in Texas…and the Red-State-Governor and Legislature continues to support that system. With it’s own power plants Austin does not need to try to influence this except to stop the Red politicians from Raiding Austins independent capacity. ( problem of it’s own…if Austin city gov’t wants more money…they don’t have to get voter approval to raise taxes…they just Raise the Electic Rates! and no one can do damn thing about it. grrrrr)

Texas is a net-producer of natural gas, which last I heard was a “fossil fuel” and there are plenty of such plants in this state. This is not an inner-city-blue-politician created problem. It’s a red-politician, bring-us-the-lobby-money heist.
