I HATE my sound system.

My previous truck had the infinity system, which i thought was pretty good for factory (i'm a sound junkie). When I bought this new truck I didn't look into the system much because my ears were too busy ear-gasming over the sound of the CTD.

Lately, I've started listening to the radio, and it sucks ****...I could not believe how much the Basic 4 speaker set up sucked. So now I'm into redoing it all. The thing is, I know nothing of vehicle sound systems.

So I'm coming here to ask what I need...I'd like to replace the door speaks, new head unit and a 10" sub. Id like to go with door speakers first, the head unit, then the sub. What all would I need and what brands? I don't have a lot of money to spend, so I'd like to go with the best bang for the buck if possible...also easiest install. I've heard changing the door speakers is kinda rough with having to mod the speakers and pieces of it... So I would really like to find speakers that fit directly.

theres a bit you will need, you will need gauged battery cable for your amps, amps, the right fuses and a few other things that escapes me right now, if you have never done it before please dont do it by yourself, ive seen people who set there vehicles on fire doing it themselves

My friend has an '05 4 dr 2500 very similar to yours.

He went with Alpine Type S components front and rear and an Alpine Deck (fairly simple) and it sounds great. I think that with the addition of a 10" sub woofer would be a great setup.

That is pretty close to what I have just been doing to my sound system. Alpine head unit, type s components in the front type g two ways in the back and a 10" sub with alpine amps.

My advice to you is to go to Best Buy or a car stereo store and listen to different speakers to see what you like. Good brands are alpine, boston acoustic, infinity, polk. If you want to instantly improve the sound, changing out the stock speakers will help some, even without any amps. Then you can get a new head unit later and it will help more. Then amps and sub to round it all out. That way you can do it in phases and not have to spend so much at once.

Awesome info...I'm definitely gonna do it in parts. Would I be able to swap out my bezel and for the nav one, to throw in an aftermarket nav? I've been thinking about that one for a long time.

for 'now' you can just replace all the factory with some good coax, I prefer Kicker, but biased.
Then later, add a 5 channel amp and a sub, a 09CK44 4 gauge wiring kit, boom...

doing install soon on my regualr cab, doing Kicker QS652 in door, Kicker IX1000.5 5 channel amp and ported l& 10" behind seat.

I am also very fond of the Kicker components. I am still biases to properly amplified Alpine Type X components. Good god, they release such perfect music. Soft Done tweeters too, so it doesn't have the harsness that a Titanium Done did. Those problems don't really exist unless you're going to play it at 'ear bleeding' levels.

yea, I prefer a silk dome tweeter to a titainium dome anyday. A lot smoother roll off response, not as harsh. Most are 22-25mm tweeters, the QS has a 30mm, which makes the stage even better to me.

Given the location of the dash speaker opening, I agree that a silk dome tweeter there makes a lot of sense otherwise it will sound a bit harsh. The Alpine stuff works well. Great bang for the buck. I'm running Hertz components up front with a Kenwood Excelon XR4S amp for the main speakers, the rear door speakers are Alpine Type R's, I've added an AudioControl LC6i LOC with summing, and I have an Alpine Type S 10" sub running off of an Alpine MRP-M500 amp.
