I need your help guys, I have a new 2013 Ram black express, I wanted to have a after market security alarm with remote starter, but I don't know where to start. I don't have any issues spending the money for what is right and best quality for my truck.

My questions are,..
How much do they cost? What brand? Any help or advice will be appreciated. I gave up in calling local dealers that install security alarms because they just want to sell any brand name of security alarm, and installations will cost me from $500. To $900. Because the year of my truck, that's ridiculous. And guys if this is the right price please correct me.

Does the the viper smart start, have any conflict with the key? I don't have a remote start on my truck key. But I was told that all keys have a chip installed, and any interference, will not let the truck start.

Do you know the more less of the price of the viper alarm ? Can I do it my self or it requires for me have a professional installation. ?

I haven't read any kind of conflicts with the remote start and the key. As far as the price of the unit.....I couldn't tell you. I know a few members have installed it themselves.

I'm sure some of the smart start guru's will chime in.

it depends on what all you want the remote start/ alarm to do.

1-way remote, 2-way remote, smart start.

you can basically do these trucks in all plug-n- play with only like 3 connections. to wires in the car.

IMO i would just do the remote start part. reason being is who actually says somethings as an alarm is going off.

do a search on the forum in the diy section about remote starts there are pages on this topic

keep in mind the parts to do this can range from 200-400 alone plus a shop will charge labor also

I would check with BestBuy. They are install guru's for Viper and other security alarms.

You are right about the price. It is not going to be cheap by any means. The price of mine plus install was around $600 and that wasn't even for a Remote Start and Alarm. That was just for the Alarm. The company that installed it told me that I could have the remote start modual added later if I wanted to but I recently found out that the system they installed in my truck is not compatible with the remote start module and that I would have to buy a whole new security plus remote start system. Which means about another grand with parts and labor.

As far as the interference, it is not true. Rams that have remote start have a special key fob with the remote start chip. I have checked and if you buy the Mopar Remote start kit it comes with replacement key fobs. My dealer quoted me $225 for the kit plus another $225 for install. Not too bad if you think about it cuz best buy is going to charge you about $500 for the remote + Security kit plus another $200 for install.

Hope this helps and good luck.

... Depending on what you want Best Buy has some that are 200 for the unit and the install you'll probably need a bypass module and I think those run like 20, I looked into them but decided I want to do the install myself.

If you choose Viper, Clifford or Python, you can do this install in multiple steps, if you can't spend the full amount at once.
Personally, I feel an alarm is a waste of money and acts as nothing more than a good way to **** off the neighbors. No one pays attention to an alarm. The only time anyone will call the cops is when they get tired of hearing it go off for no reason.

The alarm, remote start and smart start can all be purchased and installed separately.

I don't have any experience with their alarm systems, but the remote start and the smart start are very simple installs and you can save a ton by doing it yourself.
