Took my truck to the dealer today. None of the windows would go down. Dealer said i have a bad door leak, and it caused my door module and harness to melt. Parts are $300.

It was leaking down inside the door? How did they solve it? New weather stripping?

Im gonna check it myself to see where its leaking. I would assume needs new weatherstripping. My question is, does the dealer have to program the door control module, or can i just swap it myself?

Was just going to ask that very same question haha.
Knowing these trucks, probably needs some kind of flashing or programming.

Well damn, thats one of those things that can start happening, but you don't know is happening until its too late. Hopefully you don't have to reprogram it, should be an easy DIY to swap out the bad. If it's the parts I'm thinking of, you should be able to get them for well under a $100 from someone on the googlenator.

Dealer said my floor carpet is very wet. Wished I would have noticed it. Local dealer said if i buy the door module and harness from them, they will program them for free. Canbus sucks! Dealer i took it to wanted $700 to fix it including parts. I just called triple A to tow it to my house. Ill be doing the swap myself. $400 for labor??? I dont think so!

Module is $100 and harness is $110.

Sounds like these newer TIPM are useless. If it would have had the old style fuse box, just a fuse would have blown. Not melted the module and harness. From the sounds of it im lucky the damn truck didn’t burn to the ground.

I was thinking you just needed the driver side master switch box and harness to it, so it must be something else if it is $100.

I wouldn't pay that labor either, ridiculous...

Yeah each door has its own door control module. Then the harness goes to the master switch. More electronics always equals more problems.

Went to the local salvage yard today, got a used door module and the whole door harness and the drivers side plastic door sill cover all for $90.
I can now operate my windows, and did NOT have to have the door module programmed. I attatched pics of the white plug that is scortched and melted. Unplugging the harness where it meets the door took some work to get loose.
Just figured I would post feedback about programming.

Nice job man, I love it when you can tell the stealerships to kiss where the sun don’t shine lol. That’s just crazy how they made that in the way they did, every door has its own module. Well glad it didn’t need programming. Did you cut the burnt one off and use the junkyard pigtail? When you put it back together, did you drown it in dielectric grease so that won’t happen again?

Every time I change an electrical anything on this truck, the connectors get a **** load of dielectric. I just don’t really trust my ol’girl cause almost every problem I’ve had has been electrical.

I forgot to mention the dealer wanted to charge me $600 labor. Rediculous. I was going to just splice in the new pigtail to my old harness, but when i cut the ground wire, it was completely black. Had no copper color whatsoever. I didnt want a bad connection or maybe the burnt ground was what caused the module and plug to melt. So i replaced the whole door harness.
The window regulater plug was a nightmare to get unhooked/rehooked. Only way to get it removed, is to unbolt the window regulater from the glass, drop it down, and take it out. But I was able to wiggle my hand up in there and unplug the window regulater module.
I made sure I used dielectrical grease on all of the plug connections. Dont want to have to do this a second time!

I am doubting there was a leak. Im thinking lack of dialectric grease feom factory caused corrosion from moisture. Only two of the plug sockets on the door module were corroded. Other two were fine. I ended up taking off the passenger door panel and putting grease on the door module plugs there as well just to be safe.
If your truck is a little older, I highly reccomend putting dialectric grease on the plugs.

The reason I'm asking is at around 8k on my truck I found water in both front doors replacing speakers. I had the dealership replace the the door seal but I've had water in there since so I'm thinking there's a design issue and water isn't shed away from the truck like it's supposed to be? Just my thoughts.

I never found any wet carpet just wet door pockets where the speakers sit. Seen that a couple times now since the door seal was replaced.

I honestly didnt see anything wet behind the door panel. Im thinking whoever tinted the windows, when they sprayed the soapy water on the window, trickled down and slowly shorted out the module because there was zero dialectrical grease where the plugs were. I pulled all of the plugs off and put grease on them.
