  • So I bought my 2014 ram 2500 6.4 hemi certified pre owned with 56k miles on it. About 6 months later I start getting this EVIC message saying immediate air suspension serrvice/repair required. I did some research and the only posts I can find about it talk about cold weather, but i am in the middle of texas during the summer. Its not cold.

  • Also the truck will not go into alternate trailer height.

  • I took the truck to the dealer and after a week they are telling me that a connector on the second alternater is bad, as well as the entire wire chassis harness for the air ride suspension. And neither is covered by warranty.

  • I am suprised that it wasnt one of the actual parts of the air ride system. Does anyone think this will actually fix my issue? Im debating fixing or not bothering and selling it back. I dont want to have more issues with this system down the road especially since its not covered.
I dont see how the entire wire harness goes bad like that.

Thanks for any help

The factory doesn't make Hemi powered HDs with the second alternator option nor do HDs offer an air ride system. They do offer the rear air leveling system if that is what you are referring to.

What are the DTCs?

The factory did offer dual alternators on the 6.4 Hemi for 2014 model year.Screenshot_20180911-060007.jpeg

This is million dollar question with these trucks. Will the electronic gizmo the dealer thinks is bad solve my problem? Their techs can probably make a better guess than just about anyone else but it's always a gamble.

I wouldn't say problems with Ram's air-assist system are an epidemic but I do read about things from time to time. I'm not a fan of the system since it seems to have a mind of its own at times and tries to think for you (I hate technology like this btw). Before dumping a bunch of money on fixing it you might see if you can just strip it off and go with manual airbags. I love my Firestone 5000s. They are just manual fill but you could get an on board compressor (maybe use the one from your stock system?). I love the simplicity and control I have.

i would ask for visual confirmation of where the harness is bad for the air leveling system. i could see replacing the harness if there a break in the wiring but it could be a bad connector or poorly terminated wire causing issues that wouldnt require the entire harness to be replaced

If it's part of the engine, I would think it should be covered under the powertrain warranty. Maybe check another dealer or contact corporate

There’s a lot of connectors that Chrysler doesn’t offer as repair kits, it’s retarded. Sometimes the only way to get them is with the harness.

We just had to replace an entire interior body harness and instrument panel harness on a Grand Cherokee because we couldn’t get 2 connectors. So about 3 grand in parts/labour for a couple 5 dollar parts.
