Hey everyone, I am getting a new 2021 1500 Classic at a dealership, and after the frustration of having every truck I set my eyes on ending up being ‘sold’ to other customers (deposit left, financing applied for, etc.) I finally picked a truck on the dealers stock list online that showed as ‘in transit’ (not on order) thinking “there, hopefully THIS one can’t possibly be sold or holding for someone else now, right?!???”.

Well, they did say my deposit was on that truck and we worked out a deal, and I was told when it comes in it’s mine. Well, that was over a week ago now, and when I ask if they know when it will arrive, can they track its position, do they have an eta on its arrival etc. I’ve been told they have no way of tracking it, but that it should arrive ‘almost any day now’.

Has anyone else bought a truck in this way before, and if so, how long was it until your truck arrived at the dealer when it was listed as ‘in transit’?

Thanks.

I picked up my Ram from dealer stock so this didn't affect my purchase but apparently there's some sort of global phenomenon going on right now that people like to argue about a lot but while the arguing is all just **** it nonetheless is affecting borders and shipments so if you're having a delay in the delivery of something from across town or from across a border I'm guessing it's probably because all shipping is cocked up right now.

The new Classic Ram 1500s are built in Warren Michigan
If they are going to the your area dealership, which i will call the greater Toronto area.

A vehicle carrier picks up the Ram at the Warren Michigan assembly plant & is Stamped in Transit by the Plant, BUT....
If the truck is suppose to get any accessories, such as Bed Liner, floor mats, side steps, etc.
The vehicle carrier takes the Ram to
Ground Effects LTD. in Warren Mi. Address: 1990 Concept Dr, Warren, MI to have the accessories installed.
Then a vehicle carrier hauls the finished Ram back to the assembly plant for sign off of the accessories.
Once everything is signed off, the Ram is loaded onto a vehicle hauler that drives up to highway & crosses the Bridge at Sarnia & then onto the highways to get to different dealerships for dropping off trucks along the way.
So the amount of time that Ground Effects Ltd. has the truck being outfitted would cause say a week of extra time

Hope this helps to sort things :)

By the way, they have Trackers in every vehicle being delivered, they just don't let the customer know about it, they would need a full team of people just to answer questions like
"Where is my truck now" & that same person would ask the same question every day

They used to have a system called VOTS, but they shut it down because it crashed the system all the time due to call volume

Thanks, mine was actually made in Saltillo Mexico, so I’m sure that makes things even MORE complicated lol ...

Any updates for your truck? I just ordered a 2022 Ram 2500 that was "In Transit" as well. I put my deposit last wednesday and the dealership just sends me a text each day telling me that they still don't have it. Im curious on how long this process takes. The dealership said mine is just sitting at the rail yard waiting to be delivered to them. What makes this worse is the rail yard is closer to my house than the dealership.

I got very lucky last March in getting my 2500. Autotrader had a Ram dealership showing several enroute and I called them. The truck had arrived that very day, I agreed to buy it and picked it up the next morning. It had every option I wanted, including 5W prep. I’d recommend checking Autotrader and other sites and just start calling them. I don’t know if they really have a handle when an enroute truck is going to arrive but you might get lucky and it’s there already.

Hey there, my truck was in transit for about a week or so before it arrived on the lot and I picked it up. There was about 1-2 weeks of being strung along all together though, but it felt like it took forever to finally get there.

I’m not sure what your situation will be though, that was a year ago for me, just before the chip shortages and issues, plus add on now this whole Ukraine issue and also backlogs at rail yards, shipping routes etc. that might be why yours is taking so long. Also depends on the plant it’s being made at, my truck was made in Saltillo Mexico, so it had to go through two borders/countries before it got to my dealer.

Wishing you luck that your truck arrives sooner than later. Sure is frustrating when you’re paying $50K+ for something and they take forever to arrive.

Fun fact... I got my truck on March 12th. 6 days later a high school girl rear ended it because she didn't clean the ice off her windshield. So it has now been a month and I am waiting to get it back from the shop.
